    Is it mid-Feb yet?

There was a press release Jan 7 that promised a new IOS client that would allow movie downloads by mid-Feb. I'm hoping that's still in the plan for this week.

    Here's the link:

I actually asked the same question in another thread yesterday, so consider this my +1.

+2. Been patiently waiting for a alternative to flixster. Flixster's app sucks(along with their customer service).

        Pretty sure it's March today.

Obviously it's good to get it right, but on time would be nice.

        Any hints???

Still waiting for this announcement to come true, and it's a month later. What are the developers doing all day? Watching movies, I wonder? Must be hard to work there. lol

I was wondering if the soon to be released CFF download format was the reason for the delay. Developing their own HD download and then switching to CFF downloads would not make a lot of sense. If CFF is ready to go, someone may have decided to wait.

It could just be last minute software glitches, but I wouldn't expect debugging to take weeks.

I suppose it could be licensing issues. The studios are always a tough act. But I'm sure they want UV to succeed, so I don't think this one flies either.

            The mystery continues.

              Re: Is it mid-Feb yet?

I for one HOPE AND WISH Vudu will stay at their Download Plan (Completely unlimited downloaded without any penalties). I hate the fact that you will only be able to download the movie 5 times from UV's website, because crap happens from time to time.

When/If that ever comes, I am going to be buying tons of HDD's for storage so I never have to delete anything.

But again, I don't think that Vudu would switch their video formats (please dont) because the time it would take to encode every movie from ---.filetype to ---.cff would be astronomical. It took Godfather 2 (both SD and HDX) about a month and a half to be re-encoded.

That said, I can't wait for the new iPad app. Any updates?

I can't wait until the CFF is deployed. I have problems with getting the downloaded files in the vudu to go app to play. Also, I don't think vudu will be doing the encoding. I think the studio's will contract that task out. If you look on the partners page at UV's website, you will see there are many companies dedicated to encoding CFF files. It is a standard format, so it should be the same no matter where you download it from. And I believe they have been re-encoding files for at least 3 months now. They will probably wait until all titles are ready before they deploy them, to avoid confusion with different formats. But they will have to keep the old format for non UV titles.

Okay, a fork-lift change like this has me scared spitless. If we are headed into 9mths - 1 year of buggy playback due to a codec change, I am not going to be a happy camper.

CFF is a downloadable (not streamable) file format that will provide another method of storing and playing your UltraViolet purchases. It's not related to VUDU streaming, so nothing will change there - it will be an additional feature for portable offline playback.

Also, CFF is just a "container" format that is basically MP4 with extra metadata and DRM support. The actual codecs are still going to be H.264/DD/DD+/DTS/AAC, etc.

Yeah, I can't wait for CFF either, I have 15TB of NAS heaven waiting.......That does not include the 1TB built into my WD Live Hub.......I also noticed on the UV website there was a tab for "My Devices"(beta)......I don't know of any UV-labeled devices yet.......Will UV movies I already own be converted to CFF format......Hope I didn't hijack the thread, sorry.......
