    Walt Disney Titles

If you had the ear of Walt Disney Studios and they were going to release one title or one series into UV, which would you tell them to do?

    For me it is either;

    1) The Pirates of the Caribbean series
    ...or
    2) Star Wars 1-6

There are so many I have waiting in the wings, but either of those two would have to be my first choice.

National Treasure (1 & 2) were very good also.

Disney has so many great movies, but because there are not enough family movies available I would probably have to say that I would like to see the old classic Disney movies first...Apple Dumpling Gang, Freaky Friday, Swiss Family Robinson, etc.

Perhaps when the new Star Wars movie comes out they will decide to go UV...we can only hope. The important thing to remember is that Disney is going to be giving us what Lucas wouldn't...the final three episodes...then one new Star Wars movie every couple of years after that!

There are just so many. Their Nature Series is wonderful too. They put out very high grade content.

Speaking of Swiss Family Robinson, my 7 year old and I just watched that title about a month ago. It is amazing how well those titles stand the test of time. He loved it!

There are the three Tarzan films, three Beauty and the Beast, Mulan one and two, Brother Bear one and two, OMG, the list is endless. Three Santa Claus movies, Pocahontas one and two, and Pete's Dragon is a good one. In the 1980's they put out a title called "The Black Cauldron" which is little known, but still a lot of fun.

I couldn't just choose one, but if I could choose a series, I would choose the Animated Classics. That would be 46 films right there.

After that, I would ask for the Pixar films. That's another 13.

Then, the Marvel Films. The Avengers, Captain America, Thor, & Iron Man

Anything with Kurt Russell or Hayley Mills. That's about 20 more.

Good point. I see now that Disney bought Marvel in 2009. No wonder my Ironman titles are absent from D2D searches. Argg!!!

The choke hold Disney has on the backlog is truely vast. They own an amazing amount of high quality real estate being held hostage from the UV ecosystem.

In the scheme of things though, it's a small percentage. Disney's catalog is less than 700 films. That includes Pixar, Touchstone, Miramax and all of Disney's subsidiaries. There are almost 9,000 UV films right now, with another 10,000 available on vudu that are not UV. If Lionsgate added their entire catalog, that would be around 800 more!! MGM has 700 to add.

Maybe a small percentage numerically, but a much larger percentage when measuring against the collective desire to have Disney films UV (and disc to digital).

I'd say Marvel, closely followed by Pixar...what I'd really like to see is all the 'Adult' content they have rights to added, movies like Armageddon, Hidalgo, Con Air, Tombstone, and the list goes on.

For me, the kid's titles are the target.

Kronk in 1080p (two movies: The Emperor's New Grove & Kronk's New Grove).

Did you know there are eight Winnie The Pooh titles?

                        1) The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh (1977)
                        2) Pooh's Grand Adventure (1997)
                        3) Winnie The Pooh - A Season of Giving (1999)
                        4) The Tigger Movie (2000)
                        5) Winnie The Pooh - A Very Merry Pooh Year (2002)
                        6) Piglet's Big Movie (2003)
                        7) Winnie The Pooh - Springtime with Roo (2004)
                        8) Pooh's Heffalump Movie (2005)

...all are being held hostage by the folks in Burbank.

BTW, "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" I just converted via D2D from DVD to HDX. It is a Dreamworks title which just became available for D2D in the last week or so.

I watched it for the first time with my son yesterday. The picture quality upgrade makes it like a different movie. We have watched it on the DVD at least 25 times. Still, seeing it in 1080p was amazing. For sure worth the $5. Plus, my DVD was getting hard to play from scratches and heavy use. Now it is safely in the UV locker.
