      There are a few things that should happen this year that I expect will drive up the demand for UV usage.

      1. Vudu IOS app launch
      2. At Home Disc to Digital coming out of beta will increase consumer awareness.
      3. MGM making their catalog available to Disc to Digital
      4. Common File Format being deployed.
      5. At least one new retailer adding UV capability: It might be Amazon, Xbox, Lovefilm, or Blinkbox

      However, I think all of these things are behind schedule from what was originally planned

        3. I strongly agree that MGM needs to make their entire catalog available...either they're in or they're out

        5. I think we need more than one...we have M-Go fixing to start up and I would like to see Barnes and Noble get more involved pushing UV.

        I think getting a stronger presence in the Andriod market would be huge since Andriod leads the mobile device market. I don't know what is available on the Apple devices, but if there are not many choices for UV on those devices then they also should be attacked. This would help UV to gain ground on iTunes.

        Of course the service providers like VUDU, M-Go, and CinemaNow are going to have to be able to roll out enhancements to their interfaces much faster. We've been waiting for the ability to sort on VUDU's website for many months now. We've been asking for features that allow us to arrange our video library to make it easier to find movies. Several requests have been made, but only a few have been implemented and since their interface is basically what their "product" they are going to have to be able to meet the demands of their customers faster than they have over the past year or so (in my opinion).

        My ultimate dream come true would be having a service like Netflix merge with Hulu and join UV. One service that does it all...well, almost everything. The other thing missing that might help even a company like VUDU is to offer video games for customers with X-Box or PlayStation. Hmmm....I wonder if something like UV would be something people would be interested in for games?

          #4 I think may be a step which is holding back a larger marketing push and perhaps factoring into the decision by Disney to move forward.

          If I had to guess, that one item checked off the Laundery List, will have the largest impact.

            These market reports are not factoring in people who buy combo packs and subsequently redeem a UV code into their rights locker, as that is not an EST purchase.

            As I understand it, this is the principle way UV is being utilized both in the US and in the UK.

            Also, this does not take into account the third method UV is use (EST & Digital Copy being the other two), which is D2D conversions.

            Just saying UV is not doing well in EST does not factor in that UV is dominating the Digital Copy business and is the sole route to D2D consumers have available to them. In my estimation, that is a big oversight.

                the point being, UV holds a 100% market share on the D2D market. They are owning the lionshare of the Digital Copy market, as is reflected in a walk down the movie aisle of any retailer of your choosing.

                These two facts were not reflective in the report. If the gross sales were reflective in the numbers I do think is missing the point that UV has carved out its place and stands unrivled. This being a 100% lock on the D2D market and the lionshare of the Digital Copy market.

                EST is not the only thing UV does and in the UK, only a very small part. In the US, although EST is a part of UV, it is not the largest source egress into the ecosystem. As I understand it, the US is the same as the UK in this respect. The redemption of Digital Copies is the largest, by far.

                So it is not a good report on which to base the success of UV on. It is just a report on the raw sales numbers of iVoD and EST.

                I think what you are looking for is a report on the success of UV.

                For me the metric would be the daily high water mark of simultaneous playbacks (i.e. on the past day, what is the most number of people who were watching UV titles at the same time?). However, even this number would exclude people who have downloaded copies of their UV titles and are watching them from local storage. Still, I have to believe this number has been ramping up significantly in the past 12 months and is likely to see an even sharper increase in the next twelve months.

                Another metric which would be interesting to know is how many UV titles have been put into individual's rights lockers?

                We know just over 18 months ago, this number was zero. I have about 125. I know that. If we add yours, We can get within striking distance of 500. If we add everyone else’s, it has to be in the millions. Not bad numbers considering most of these numbers will not show up on an EST market report. At least none of my 125 will.

                  There was an article last week that said that DECE will begin reporting redemption numbers in the near future, and I hope they include D2D in the figure. We could definitely see a better picture of the competition with iTunes when that happens.

                      Just to speculate, lets say on any given day iTunes does 1500 EST transactions of movie titles.

                      On the same day UV e-vendors do 150 EST transactions, but at the same time redeem 2700 Digital Copies and 9450 D2D titles. iTunes wins the EST market, but who cares at that point.

                        Okay. Assume this is on a growth trajectory. Next three months see three million (@14 in July), and after that four million (@ 18 million in November). By the end of 2013, UV will have doubled its membership to 20 million. If it really takes off, it could be difficult to estimate.

                          I just thought of something else. Vudu or UV is the only video service that's available on IOS, and Android platforms. Amazon Instant is only available on Kindle devices, or rooted android devices, since it's not in the Play store. Another win for UV!

                            This is not a true statement. While Vudu may be considered as the leader, there are a couple of others that I am aware of. Both CenemaNow and M-Go are competitors of Vudu and are compatible with IOS and Andriod. Keep in mind that M-Go is still new, but they do support a tablets running Andriod 4.0 and up and IOS 6.x and higher.

                                I wasn't talking about CinemaNow. I was trying to compare major VOD storefronts, iTunes, Amazon Instant, and Vudu. These are the ones that almost everyone knows about. The average joe has never heard of CinemaNow, but everyone knows about iTunes, Amazon, and more and more poeple are finding out about vudu.
