We'll have to wait and see if the Vudu copy is UV but this is a step in the right direction.

Thank you for the news flash.

      The mouse makes a move.

Not a full out embrace of UV, but at least a step away from the solo gig they had with iTunes.

Maybe once the log jam breaks up a bit, they will take the next step to UV.

Again, thx for digging up the news.

I like this new initiative a lot. Thanks Disney. I still hope they join UV so we can get catalog releases that we already own on DVD, but this is a good step for new movies.

This is great news. Unfortunate no UV but a step in the right direction. If they had rolled out their own proprietary locker as they had previously planned it would be difficult to roll out UltraViolet but with this new digital copy system it will be easy to add UV functionality. I just wish they had a way for me to add all of my old iTunes digital copies to Vudu.

I think a case can be made for that now. Perhaps they will be "nice" and allow these redemption of previously issued iTunes DC codes via Vudu instead.

Thinking about the UV step, I do think it is now safe to say that Disney has punted the UV decision. We will not see further change in their policy for a year or more, I suspect.

Once they chose to respond to the market with this method (offer DC via Amazon & Vudu in addition to iTunes), the chance they will be adopting UV anytime soon I think is gone.

The hope of being able to rush to the WalMart photo counter with a box full of packaged media with the Disney DVD logo on them to put them into a UV locker have been dashed with this announcement. My guess is 2014 at the earliest would be when we can again start to hope for change.

In one way, it is good to see the monolithic facade of Disney Studios crack under pressure. We all knew they were seeing the DC market slip away from them and they responded. In another way, the UV decision being "put on the shelf" is hurtful, since now we all must wait indefinitely for a next step.

I know many of you feel that being able to redeem a digital copy of Disney movies on Vudu is good news, and it is for Vudu. I guess it's also good that Disney is beginning to break under the pressure. However, we really should hold out as much as possible for Disney to join UV. Keep your money in your pocket until they start releasing new titles + UV and start talking about allowing D2D on their older titles.

We probably only buy about 2 new Disney movies a year, but we have about 100 DVDs sitting on the shelf. So D2D is really what I think most people want from Disney.

                LuzRinggold,

if it is any consolation, the Stich Kingdom article has a comments sections you can post your views on as well. I have done so with mine. It may be futile, but all I can do is try.

                  Thanks Walter!

I too posted a reply to their article. I doubt it will do any good, but it was easy enough to do so why not try.

If in the near future Disney allows our old iTunes (already redeemed) only Digital Copy codes also redeem on digitalcopyplus.com that would be awesome!

I agree. I have several too I would like to get in my Vudu Library.

                      This is from the DigitalCopy Plus site;
What Digital Copy movies can I redeem on this website?
Select Digital Copy titles from Walt Disney Pictures, Disney Pixar, Marvel, Touchstone, ABC, Disney Channel, and DreamWorks Pictures, can be redeemed on this website. Titles released prior to June 2013 may require the Digital Copy disc. Please refer to the insert from your Blu-ray or DVD package for specific instructions.

                        Walter,

I understand your viewpoint, but I draw the opposite conclusion that you do. This announcement shows that Disney is aware of consumer demand for a cross-platform, cloud based digital copy service. This is why they support 3 different providers. Universal has the same type of redemption system for their UV releases. To me, this looks like what they will offer in place of what had originally been called "Keychest". With support for 2 cloud based services, plus iTunes, there is no need for them to build a new cloud based movie platform. When UV first launched, Disney's CEO said that Keychest was to be compatible with UltraViolet, not compete against it. This news makes it more likely that UV compatibility will happen sooner rather than later. Just my 02 cents.

I do hope you are right. On second thought, what am I getting into. My d2d bill will spike beyond all recongition if they do. That would suck, but be cool at the same time. I mean... Argh... I don't know what I mean

I just tried to redeem an unredeemed digital copy code from Lady and the Tramp on the new website and it said they do not support the redemption of older titles which does not surprise me. We need to see if we can pressure Disney to let us redeem our old iTunes codes on Vudu. Does anyone know of a support email or their twitter handle?

I am going to e-mail them to ask them to add UV capability. Would love to ask about downloading CFF files but it's not available yet, so that's not a current issue.
