    Digital Copy Plus

Not a D2D or UV question, per se, but has anyone attempted to redeem an older Disney Digital copy on the digitalcopyplus.com website?

If they will redeem, and are available on Vudu, I will be sure to get my backlog of Disney titles I have yet to purchase with a Digital copy. I had/have no intent to join the iTunes crowd...I'm happy with Vudu's versatility and portability.

Anyone have Oz yet, the redemption feature might not even go live until Oz is released?

I'll not be getting Oz, but did preorder Iron Man 3. I had hoped that the bit in the FAQ regarding "titles from before June 2013 may require disk" meant that we would be seeing the back catalogue added at the same time.

Could be but we'll just have to wait and see what Disney does with past releases.

physical media (the digital copy disc) is static content. The software on those discs has no idea there is a new web-site now.

Unless Disney puts in some kind of re-directed somehow, those will remain unchanged iTunes / Windows Media Player versions.

The Windows Media Player Version is physically on the disc, so that is not changing.

That way of getting a digital copy is so two~thousand~and~late. Who wants digital rips on a computer any more?

Stream it all the way, baby!!! ...or don't waist my time.

At least Disney figured out this part of what their customers want with Oz and titles going forward.

Past releases are not supported on the new website. I tried one which didn't work and also emailed their support who confirmed that currently they do not support redemption of past releases.

Not surprised that the older release codes do not work... I am however waiting patiently to see if Disney will give you the HDX, HD or SD version of Oz. If they issue HDX then I may proceed with purchasing the 3D bluray... If SD, then no go on the disc purchase. I will just buy outright from VUDU. I must have the HDX version!

Walter, I think you've misunderstood my post. I understand how the physical media digital copy works and that those are separate from this new site. What the DigitalCopyPlus site does say, which I find interesting, is that "However, the code can also be used to unlock points and offers through Disney Movie Rewards." This means Disney is using the same code for the DisneyCopyPlus DC as they are for DMR. This is no different from how Disney currently treats the codes in current releases as they currently use the same code for the physical media digital copy and DMR. As Disney says "Disney Movie Magic One Code Unlocks It All". When you redeem your code for points on DMR, Disney knows exactly which title and version you've purchased.

Since Disney already has a list of codes for previous releases it's possible that Disney could make those codes active on the new DigitalCopyPlus site at some point. They very well might not as well but it's not out of the realm of possibility. What remains to be seen, and I don't think any of us have the answer to that question, is whether Disney will do that.

What we don't know is whether past releases will or will not be supported in the future. Just because a code doesn't work today doesn't mean it won't work in the future.

The reason why I asked if anyone already got their hands on a copy of Oz before the release date is because I would be curious if those codes would receive the same error message. It's not uncommon, as we've seen in the UV world, to have digital copy codes not be active until the actual release date.

Further, the DCP site is new so it's quite possible that no codes are active until the first DCP title is officially released. Only time will tell how Disney will support this site and previous titles. Hence, just because a code doesn't work today doesn't mean that it can't work in the future.

As we've seen with older DC codes for other studios some of those older DC codes wouldn't redeem in the UV system. However, at a later date those studios made those old DC codes active so that they could be redeemed in UV.

                      Thx for the clarification.

Here is what DC+ really is. Disney Studios has a database. Depending on what provider you choose, it will issue you a redemption code for getting your DC from that provider and then mark your DC+ code as having been used.

This is a very simple, flat database. The only real work is loading the codes (both the DC+ codes and the correlating DC-provider's codes), but even that is child's play for a system's engineer.

I do understand there is hope being held out for previously issued codes from previous Disney Studio releases to be loaded into this new database, but I fear those hopes are being placed on long odds.

As for the DMR tie-in, again that is an easy api call to the existing system to correlate accounts and continue those promotions, should the studio choose to do so.

P.S.- there is another database which can do as you are hoping. It is the one maintained by DECE. Once Disney becomes a member, you will be able to in effect do as you are hoping, visa-ve the UV D2D program.

                        Re: Digital Copy Plus

I've been writing Disney trying to get former titles from Disney Movies Online released into VUDU (or DC+ in general).

As remote access was something that was advertised as a feature on numerous titles (I think it was) and it was something I enjoyed on a number of occasions. If Disney would allow the DC+ clients in general or VUDU specifically to check your streaming rights with your DMR account (like they do with UV), it would make good on what Disney Movies Online (and its other incarnations) were trying to be.

I've cause three emails from three accounts to make this request.
I don't know that it will go anywhere, but more emails to the DMR people couldn't hurt.

I too am interested in availability of older Disney Digital Copy movies in Digital Copy Plus (DCP), but I have a different question: Does DCP work with only one Vudu account? If so, I will have to consolidate my family's Vudu accounts (facilitated by Ultraviolet) into one Vudu account for DCP, correct?

I'd say that having to consolidate is very likely, there is not a legitimate way to share the non-UV titles available in Vudu with another account.

I was watching the Toy Story 2 and 3 on BD and in the advertisements it said Disney Studio All Access. In the video it showed a picture of what appears to be a PS3 controller. Here is a link to the site: http://disney.go.com/movies-rewards-more/ It makes me think that Disney is going to add existing digital copy movies to Digital Copy Plus so you can stream them on Vudu on the PS3.
