Lord of the Rings is a pain to recognize in VUDU...

Okay, so I'm going through and trying to get a bunch of stuff into the system and finding it to be a quirky and slightly laborious process. Not least of all the Lord of the Rings sets.

So, I've got the Lord of the Rings Blu-Ray Extended Edition trilogy set. Y'know the REALLY EXPENSIVE one. I also just recently picked up the individual theatrical versions. I previously had the DVD 2-Disc theatricals & the Individual extended editions sets.

So, my experience pretty much went thus:

None of the Blu-Ray extended edition discs worked correctly., all six blu-rays wanted to convert to either Return of the King (theatrical) or Fellowship (Theatrical). Now, I could insert the Two Towers or Return of the King "Appendixes" and those would recognize as the extended edition of both movies, but because the discs included in the Blu-Ray set were DVDs for the bonus features it wanted to charge me the DVD conversion price! Argh! Fine, whatever, it's half off which puts it nearly squarely back at the Blu->HDX cost in-store. But, I also wanted the Theatrical versions. Now, you'd THINK that if you buy the Extended edition, it should just come with the theatrical version (whiuch is basically a stripped down version of the Extended cut). But it doesn't work that way. Enter the Theatrical single-disc blu-ray sets. Return & Two Towers. Fine. Recognized as Theatrical versions. Fellowship? No joy, wanted to recognize as, I believe Return of the King. *Sigh* Finally had to go back to my old DVD 2-disc theatrical releases to get Fellowship to recognize as theatrical. And of course I got charged at the DVD price, despite having both the Blu-Ray theatrical AND extended editions.

Clearly this is a significant nuisance and ends up being slightly costlier due to the blu-ray discs themselves NOT recognizing properly and thus having to go back to the more expensive DVD versions.

    Will this ever get fixed?

I mean, I've got it all done and converted now, but I assume others are going through exactly this same headache. Hopefully it gets fixed before the 50% off sale ends?

Similar issues with Blade Trinity. Had to go back to the DVD versin because the Blu wasn't working.
Similar issues with Matrix: Revolutions. Blu was failing and DVD was working. Clearly, I'd rather have gotten the slightly more favorable price points, but such is life.

I've been marking as "not my disc" and indicating which titles they actually are. But so far none of my indicatinos seem to have gotten fixed in the system... At least not that I've noticed...

I would like the answer to this as well and are we going to get notified when it's fixed so that we can try it again?

Hate to dig up an old thread but I was adding the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended Edition) to my VuDu account via Disc to Digital and "Return of the King" keeps trying to add the Theatrical Edition.

Can I add the Theatrical Edition and send in a support request to have it changed to the Extended Edition?

I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't bet on it. From what I understand, it's sometimes possible to have the quality or price changed or updated because it's for the same piece of content. But as far as the Vudu database is concerned (and probably the licensing, too), two versions of the same movie might as well be different movies.

Just make sure to report it in the In-Home D2D Bugs - Movie not recognized / Mapping Issues thread, and include the UPC for the movie if you can.

I actually had the same issue when I converted my DVDs. I contacted support first to make sure that they would be able to fix the issue and they said that they would. Once I converted them, I sent pictures of the Extended Edition discs and they had them switched within a couple of days. They also added the Extended Edition of Anchorman for me when I asked, since I converted it about a week before the Ext. Edition was available on D2D. They are really great about fixing almost any issue you run into and their customer service is wonderful. Whenever you're in doubt, just shoot them an email and see what they can do for you.
