How to get Blu-Ray Disks onto Vudu Using a MAC.

Seeing as how the drive doesn't read Blu-rays how would I do it?

I had been using a similar older model with my Mac without a hitch. I wanted something faster and decided to upgraded and still working without a hitch.

Here's the current one I'm using.

        http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Electr...oneer+bdr-xd04

It doesn't use a Tray OR a Slot load mechanism. I've actually found it faster and easier to swap disc than either Tray or Slot. Plus it's supposed to be the Smallest and Lightest external Blu-Ray on the market, until next week anyways.

          I have one of these,

In a generic enclosure. Works pretty well, I bought it specifically for D2D.

This is the one I have and it works great. Reads (and writes) Blu-Ray on a Mac just fine. Works perfectly with VUDUToGo.

This one was cheaper, and I've already saved the price of it in D2D fees: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TVAU0E/

(I'm not sure how well it would work as a Blu-ray player for a PC, as the newest PC I have in the house is still running WinXP.)

It's cheaper because it's only a Blu Ray reader, not a Blu Ray writer. And I think it's slower too. I wanted a more versatile drive that could be used for more functions than merely D2D@Home. And I've already saved the price of it in D2D fees as well

That's the one I replaced with my top loading Pioneer. Will it work? Yes or maybe. With my Mac it worked "ok" with my Windows machine it was a nightware. It's an old drive. It's slow. If you want to do D2D and swap disc's it really slows the process down. If you want to use it for anything else that you would like speed for forget about it. Not that too many people do Blu-Ray burning but you can't with this drive. Doesn't support all the new disc format. The disc tray, like many (not all trays) doesn't come out far enough so it's a bit cumbersome, especially swap lots of discs quickly. As for Windows, especially with XP I wasted HOURS looking for proper drivers and trying to get everything configured properly. Moving this drive to more modern Windows took more of my time JUST to use the drive and still wasn't perfect.

For hours and hours you'll be USING the drive just pay the extra $60 and get a state of the art, current production, name brand model, that you don't have to frustrate yourself WORKING with hours before you can even USE it only to still not enjoy as much because it's a cut rate product to begin with.

Sorry quite bit biased on this one from massive personal experience.

                      Hi,

I purchased this same blu-ray drive in hopes of converting my blu-ray collection before the D2D 50% off sale ends and I can't get the Vudu To Go app to recognize any of my movies.

I'm using a brand new macbook air (OS X mountain lion), the samsung SE-506BB and my regular old retail blu-rays. I haven't installed any extra software. My process (that doesn't work):
                      1) I have the drive connected into the USB slot
                      2) I open Vudu To Go and click "add disc"
                      3) I put a blu-ray into the drive
                      4) It reads it and after about 10 seconds says "disc not valid for D2D"

Four straight films (Bridesmaids, Inglourious Basterds, Lost In Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), all of which are verified as D2D friendly, all of which failed.

Can anyone be so kind as to detail step by step how to successfully get blu-rays recognized and converted for a Mac? Do I need to download/install some open-source application like VLC player or MakeMKV or something else to make it work?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! I really appreciate it

Nevermind. Just started working. For D2D, it's plug and play, so to speak - no new software installed, drive reads disc, click add disc in Vudu2Go app and, anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds later, the app has identified the movie (or not as the case may often be!)

Was wondering if anyone knows if you always have to install blu ray software w/ the external player for Mac. Or if D2D/VUDUToGo doesn't necessarily require that.

No, installing Blu Ray software isn't necessary to get D2D/VUDUToGo working on a Mac with an external player. So long as the inserted disk simply mounts on the desktop, the VUDUToGo software will recognize it and attempt to validate it as an eligible title. And that capability is built into OS X (assuming you're using a Mac-compatible Blu Ray reader.)

You would only need to install Blu Ray software if you wanted to watch the movie directly off the Blu Ray disk.
