I might be done with Walmart preorders

Right now on Amazon.com, the following movies are only $24.99 with Amazon Prime free shipping:

Star Trek Into Darkness 3D 3-disc set
    World War Z 3D 3-disc set

Iron Man 3 3d and Man of Steel 3D are only $29.99 each.

Considering what I pay for the preorder, and the fact that I always wait for the blu-ray before I watch a movie, and that the early access features are becoming fewer and fewer, I don't think I need to buy any more preorders.

I also HATE that all of my preorders still show up in my VUDU locker with the preorder artwork, instead of just an icon of the movie poster.

If Walmart starts doing 3D preorders and/or exclusive steelbook packaging a la Man of Steel, then I might start buying them again.

I did the VUDU preorder on Star Trek, since we wanted to watch it while my daughter was in town. I'm getting the Blu-ray tomorrow. It does seems silly to have the preorder box art forever.

Yeah I haven't pre-ordered any since Man of Steel. You are right about the bonuses not being as good lately. Also the box art is just ridiculous but not as bad in general as it used to be. The Ironman 3 art is the worst while man of Steel and a lot of newer ones just have the pre-order banner at the top. They really need to get rid of the banner after the movie release though.

Re: I might be done with Walmart preorders

I agree. No need to spend a little extra money on the preorder, just wait for the release date and buy. I ended up buying the Iron Man 3 preorder and Epic preorder and I wish that I had waited. The bonuses included with them are a joke!

Also, Amazon.com has a preorder price guarantee. I preordered Now You See Me on Blu-ray from them for $24.99. But when the movie was released, the price dropped to $19.99, so that is what they charged my credit card.

The ONLY time I will buy a preorder is if it includes a second movie that I do not own. World War Z includes the movie Cloverfield. In this case, the problem is that Cloverfield sucks. And I actually would have bought the Star Trek Into Darkness preorder from Walmart if I didn't already own Star Trek. Maybe the bonus should simply be a Vudu credit.

I to do not like the pre-order from wal mart. However I have found that the pre-orders from best buy are much better if you don't care about the 'extra's - which I don't, I just get them for the early viewing. I've gotten Star Trek and GI Joe Retaliation from best buy, and when adding to cinemanow, found that they are already UV so they showed up in VUDU as well and I was able to watch it through there. I can't say this is always the case, and of course it doesn't work for Disney (aka Iron Man 3) but thought I'd pass it along. I like it cause it just shows the movie art instead of the pre-order art wal mart keeps *cough cough... crappy iron man 3 art ... cough cough*. The other advantage of Best Buy is you only pay 15 or 20 for the pre-order (GI Joe was 15 and 20 for Start Trek) then you pay the difference when picking up the disk, so you can still price match with amazon.

I have three preorders currently, Monsters University, Despiciable Me 2, and WWZ. I had no idea that the cover art would not change and continue to show prorder on the cover. I am not too thrilled with that either. Hopefully this changes. I also wish that bouus movies, such as Cloverfield, would be placed as its own movie, not bundled within WWZ.

The good news is that the movies are not bundled together and are not shown with the preoerder art on other UV sites.

Getting rid of the preorder art and unbundling movies are 2 things that I would absolutely change if I could tell VUDU what needs changing. Hopefully they will figure out at some point that these things should be done.

I hear you. I'm been saying this for months now. Basically you end up paying $5-10 extra for Walmart / Vudu pre-order's over Amazon pre-orders.

If all you want is the Blu-Ray movie, and perhaps it's associated digital copy their is no point in paying extra for the WM/Vudu pre-order.

Otherwise VM/Vudu gets you varying combinations of early viewing, extra (bonus) movie, extra (bonus) gift / toy / promo, etc for your extra $5-10.

I've come to appreciate the early viewing and the bonuses which I sell off. HOWEVER, I'm a 3D person and would MUCH, MUCH rather have a 3D pre-order of the movie.

I just checked out the Pacific Rim pre-order and it is $29.96 and its not even the 3D!!! What a rip off. Only thing they say you get is some early bonus footage.

Amazon.com has the Blu-ray for $24.99 and if you preorder and the price drops you are guaranteed the lowest price. Most of the bonus stuff simply isn't worth the extra dollars...it's not even worth pay more to watch the movie a couple of weeks before the release date.

It was on sale last week for $19.99, well worth it for me, early release and paid the same price I assume most stores will be charging on release day.

Also bought IM3 for $24.99, great deal since Amazon is listing $29.99 for the BR/DVD/DC combo, I do see that combo going down to $24.99 during release week and the BR/DVD combo at $19.99 so I paid the same but I got early release for 3 weeks.

$5 more than Amazon with early viewing via digital copy and early physical copy. Plus some minimal bonus content.

Same as before. You pay $5 extra for early viewing and a sealed copy provided in advance of release you don't have to open to add digital copy to your account. There's some value there for only $5.

For the $5 though I would MUCH prefer 3D myself.

                              OMG where was this during pre-order ! ! !

                              Amazon is still $26.

I pre-ordered during the Vudu-WM deal. I don't know if I should be mad or thrilled now.

It's a CHEAP deal. I could almost but it just to get the 3D disc and sell the rest.

Anyone who is interested in the movie and who hasn't bought in should buy in now. Price almost seems like a mistake.

Amazon was willing to do a one time exception price match. That saved me the drive to Wallyworld or $1.97 shipping.

                              NICE
