Upgrade from SD to HDX surcharge possibility?

I am putting this out there as a suggestion, but wanted to see how the community felt:
I have some movies that are in SD but want them in HDX. While this is cheaper than buying some movies on Blu-Ray, having to pay full price for the HDX when you own the SD already seems counter-productive in terms of customer loyalty. So, I would say to be able to get movies in HDX that you own already in SD should have an upcharge of the difference (so if you own the SD, and the HDX is 17.99, then you would pay the difference. 17.99-9.99 SD price=$8 upgrade charge for HDX, before taxes of course). What does everyone think?

This has already been discussed a few times and I think most of us would love to see something like this implemented. Most of the time however, Vudu is limited by the studios as to whether this would be done.

I have about 100 titles that I would upgrade for a few bucks a pop. Hopefully negotiations with the studio's are taking place to allow this soon. Sony already allows this for titles redeemed through their site, so at least it's on their radar.

Well so long as we're wishing, I think they should pay me $5 for every title I upgrade, and all future titles should be free.

Yes, I think we can all agree -- having to pay full price for the whole new HDX copy when we already have the SD copy is absurd.

In all honesty, I don't see the likelihood of them allowing us to just pay "an upcharge of the difference" though. Because then everyone would just buy the SD copy, and maybe upgrade later if they really wanted to, with no penalty. That's less money in VUDU pockets.

So being a bit more realistic? I could see it being the "difference between the SD and HDX versions, plus $2-3 or so."

Well they really should be looking at doing something.
I had the SD version of a movie wanted in HDX
got lucky Had the bluray of said movie paid $2 for disk to digital

if they would of had a up covert option on this one
cost of HDX - cost of SD it would have been $6
I would have likely paid the extra $4 for convenience, because this movie gave an error with their at home program
and needed to be done at Walmart.

Not necessarily. My wishlist is full of titles that are currently only available in SD, because I refuse to buy in SD knowing that I'd just have to pay full price again when HDX finally becomes available. If some sort of discount was offered for upgrades, then I would be inclined to at least consider buying the SD copy in the meantime. As it stands now, those are just lost sales for VUDU.

I think in the end they would make more money offering a good upgrade program.
You think less because a person would need to buy the SD and HDX both meaning more money.
              But lets break this down
A person right now is buying SD cause he does not need HDX ok a year later he starts wanting HDX
How likely is it he will buy the HDX copy of the ones he already owns?
I am guess just a select few of his favorites would make that cut.
Were if it was a upgrade charge only, likey would be a lot greater amount switched to HDX
likely adding up to more money than the few he would have done other wise.

2nd way to look at it that it would mean more money
Is as jjohns above points out, one might buy one that's SD only right now meaning money now and some more later when he upgrades it to HDX. Instead this person might hold off buying and later not even want it when the HDX finally comes out.

3rd - the one that really points out they need to do something-
              Person A
goes to Walmart picks up 3 of the 4 film favorites that come with UV/Vudu codes
              TMNT bundle $5
              Lethal Weapon & Ocean's 11 pack $10 each
they claim code likely never bother upgrading because it would be $14x12= $168
if upgrade was a simple click and likely pushed when code was claimed $4x12= $48 made
              Person B
buys same DVD packs as above
but instead of claiming codes he just pops each disk into the @ home converter program
              more than 10 moves so only $2.50 for HDX x 12 = $30
he's now is sitting on unused codes and has HDX for less

Blasphemy!! You'd have to be a crazy blind witch not to pay a few extra $$$ for HDX. Unless you still haven't upgraded your 70's national TV.

Would have to agree with you, if the HDX is less than $3 difference the person would be a bit foolish not to get it right away. I was mostly taking about the ones with a $6+ difference or the TV series with a $12+ difference.

Me personally I have like over 90% of mine in HDX
the SD in my collection being from crappy studios that gave SD codes with their Blurays & the Free SD movies from signing up. I would pay to upgrade some of these to HDX but not pay full price to do so. On a few I have managed to upgrade using the D2D program.

You can add me to the list as someone who would like the feature.

I have done D2D on a few titles that were SD only. In the future if they have an HDX on those titles, I would like to easily chose to upgrade right from my TV.

Vudu seems to be offering an upgrade deal on select TV shows. Breaking Bad and some of Big Bang Theory are two examples that I've noticed.

Yes they are, it only covers purchases and not code redemptions. Its a start though.
