It's kind of scary to pre-order from them now with so many delays and everyone blaming each other for the delays. That being said I wouldn't mind 2 of those 3 movies.

Nope. I have no desire to see Enders Game Never read the book and the previews looked dull.

Hopefully these new pre-orders will go better since when you buy them they should activate the code like a phone card looking at the pictures of a leaked ad, iTunes, ect to prevent theft which means Walmart runs out of the Blu-rays they ordered based off the number of pre-orders sold at Walmart.

I a curious. When you get the pre order, have the HDX copy added, you watch it a dozen times, what do you do with the disc when it eventually ships?

I guess I don't understand. All my discs are sitting in boxes in my garage and I just watch movies via streaming.

I know you were not asking me, but when we preorder from Amazon and the disc arrives it's no different than any other DVD or Blu-ray purchase...we add it to our collection. Of course you are inquiring specifically about those movies that are actually UV and available to stream. Those are really no different. We keep the disc on our self and they are sometimes used to watch on TVs that don't have a Roku device (the kids still don't have smart TVs or Roku) and on those nights when we have buffering issues (which doesn't happen as much as it used to).

We also loan out our DVDs to family and friends.

We continue, and will continue, to buy physical media simply because we don't have 100% trust that UV will be around forever as they claim. And what if Vudu went away? For us, "if" they did go away we would loose a few movies that we've actually bought from Vudu and we would be out a lot of money that we've spent on D2D...but at least we would still have our physical media.

                    I understand completely.

Following that same reasoning, if Amazon or iTunes had combo packs of CDs w/MP3 digital copies for $5.00 more then the MP3 alone, you too would elect the combo, I am assuming. Also, Amazon Kindle charging an extra $10.00 for a paper copy of their e-books, you too would pay the premium to have a physical copy.

I guess I have the perspective of a technology professional and simply have no concern of this format going away. On the contrary, like the eight track tape, I am certain optical disc will too soon have a swan song while UV takes the place. Spending a premium to hord a physical copy to me is waisted money.

Our family's music is all MP3s, our books are all e-books, and our movies are all from streaming providers. I can't remember the last CD I bought. I have bought several books, but they were all e-books. The last physical book I bought was over a year ago. I know I am not alone here with Borders going out of business and Barns & Noble hanging on by their teeth, there has to be a lot of folks buying e-books.

Anyway, that is just me. I do understand everyone is different.

Sorry, but I still have yet to receive a shipping confirmation on Pacific Rim after 3 1/2 weeks, Grown Ups 2 or White House Down which came out Tuesday, or Turbo which comes out in 4 days. Until VUDU and Wal-Mart get their collective you-know-what together on this, I'm done with their pre-orders.

My husband is in IT and he really makes most of these decisions. He said that "if" the digital movie could easily be downloaded to our computer (like we do with MP3 files from Amazon) that would be a different story because we would be in control of the file containing our movie. There are too many moving parts between a digital file on Vudu's server and our television to trust that something will not change down the road that might either force us to spend more money on equipment, or a subscription fee, or possibly the service even going away. Technology does change and that often costs the consumer...and while we might put a lot of trust in technology, it's the American dollar and the businesses that we are afraid to put 100% trust in.

Also, it really does't cost that much more (sometimes it's cheaper) to buy a Blu-ray with a UV code instead of just buying the digital copy on Vudu. Plus, if we decided we didn't like the movie we could always turn around and sell it and make at least half our money back while still having a UV copy (something you couldn't do with a digital movie).

...of course all you write is true. Most of all that technology is in a perpetual state of flux.

For instance, look at the sales figures for compact discs today compared to ten years ago.

IMHO, optical disc of movie industry content has a similure fate in store and I do not believe I am alone in this opinion. The trend seems unambigiusly clear.

If it were truly at a premium for a physical copy, many might opt out; however, $3-5 less to get both digial and physical copies can hardly be considered "a premium." For instance, many HDX new releases are $22.99 (or more) on Vudu, while most Blurays can be snagged for $19.99 on release day, with prices decreasing the longer they are on the shelf, until they hit the $7.88 bin. With so few EST discounts, like Vudu offering the recent digital 'blue bin' and an occasional $9.99 title, the margin is even higher, like, almost $15 in favor of physical w/UV over pure EST.
