New to D2D / UV - basic HDX questions

I have a UV account and a couple dozen HDX films in it. I've watched 'em via VUDU through my Roku, very happy.

I wanted to try out In-Home D2D (Vudu 2 Go) to upgrade my DVD collection to HDX - maybe 10 at a time to get the discount. So I downloaded and installed to my PC and found about 1 out of 3 of my DVD are available to do this. Cool. I click on the HDX for each. Now they're in my "cart"

    Here's the question:
    (1) All of these will be going into my UV account, right?

So I can watch them via ... Flixter or CinemaNow or PC download, correct? I'm not "limited" to VUDU (or if VUDU goes out of business, heaven forbid)

    (2) While they all say HDX in the "checkout" (I have not hit "Pay" yet) - some say [WS] in the description and some don't (for example - SERENITY [WS], and AMERICAN BEAUTY says nothing). These are all WS DVD I'm using.

Is that just an inconsistency somewhere - or am I gonna get HDX versions that are Full Screen or Pan-Scan (which I would NOT want)?

    How do I know? Help?

Yes. They all get added to your UV locker.

Yes, but there are a few titles that the other providers may not have for streaming. This is very rare though. One example from my collection (the only one I know of) is Dream a Little Dream.

    (2) While they all say HDX in the "checkout" (I have not hit "Pay" yet) - some say [WS] in the description and some don't (for example - SERENITY [WS], and AMERICAN BEAUTY says nothing). These are all WS DVD I'm using.

They will all be the HDX version the studio has supplied Vudu with. The extra information after the movie title is just infromation that is in the database for that disc. You will get the HDX version that Vudu has. There might be a few older movies (40's, 50's) that were only full screen when released, but I would have to look into my account and see how they redeemed. I think Singing in the Rain was fullscreen, but I can't remember. I have a lot of movies in my collection, but I can't think of any that are only fullscreen at the moment. I have done a lot of D2D and I think all have redeemed as Widescreen. I will admit though, I havent watched 80% of my collection on Vudu yet. You will be fine.

    How do I know? Help?

Thanks. I'm gonna pay for my first 10 now - half with the [WS] and half without and see what happens!

But I appreciate the hand-holding. I wish the naming conventions could be more consistent in the disc database, but ... what can you do?

        No problem.

After your first set you will become a lot more comfortable with the process...and that is where the addiction begins.

Yeah - I'm there. Found out about the whole after-market for UV HDX codes and bought a few of those pretty cheap.

Loving it so far - amazed how few of my DVD are available via D2D, but ... there such is life.

It's basically a great way to just "unclutter" your shelves!

            I agree.

I did find for me, this was a bit faster in checking which DVD's/blu rays would be eligible on D2D:

            http://www.vudu.com/in_home_disc_to_digital.html

You might be using the link/site already, but when I first started I spent a long time inserting each DVD trying to see if it would work, before I discovered it.

I was NOT using that link - thank you! Great - now I just have to give VUDU ALL of my money.

New question - can you delete a movie - I don't need, for example, in my UV account to have a "Mean Girls" SD, and a "Mean Girls" HDX, HD, SD version.

Seems - foolish. V2G knew I had an SD version of the film (free from signing), and upgraded my DVD to HDX; why not just ... put one over the other.

Right now Ultraviolet does not have a way to delete a movie. Vudu can only delete a movie you purchased through them if you contact them, but if it is in your UV collection, it will just reappear. Somehow though, Flixster (if you redeemed a movie/code/D2D throught them) does have the option to delete a movie on their site which will remove it from your UV collection. I did this once a few months back, so I am not sure if it is still the same today. I have a few duplicates in my UV locker at the moment too I would like cleaned up.

One of the many good things about Vudu is they will not show multiple copies when you have SD, and HD redeemed separately, like the Ultraviolet site does. On Vudu you will see one copy of Mean Girls. Hopefully in the future, Ultraviolet will have the option to delete a movie or they will combine them on their own. On other providers, such as Target Ticket, I believe that they do not combine the movies like Vudu does, so with them, currently, you would see both.

Only if they are UV titles. There are a few, very few, non UV titles that are available for D2D and they would only appear in your Vudu account.

I did not know that. Is there a list of these titles? Thanks.
