About deleting movies from a Vudu account

I added a few movies to my Vudu account using the D2D service from some of my blu-rays and used UV digital code that came with one of my Blu-rays that I purchased. Suppose that one day I want to sell my discs would it be illegal to still have the same movies in my Vudu account if they were used in the D2D process and through UV codes that came with discs? Would there be an option to delete movies under my account? So am I stuck with my discs with no option to sell them or give them away if I don't want them anymore if I used them for D2D and use the UV codes that come with them if I can't delete the corresponding digital movies from my account? Also is there ever going to be an option for the user to delete their digital movies themselves through there Vudu account?

No, it is not illegal. If you do d2d, it would be the same as if you actually purchased that movie{except your getting it for a lot cheaper}. The movie is yours to keep in VUDU forever.

Don't start bragging about selling your recently converted movies (this usually starts to happen every 6 months with people). Terms of service:

      Disc to Digital:

You may have the opportunity to covert your physical Blu-ray? and DVD discs into electronic copies that may be stored and viewed through the VUDU Service via the Disc to Digital program. The Disc to Digital program is only available for physical Blu-ray? and DVD titles that have been legitimately purchased and are presently owned by you. VUDU reserves the right to refuse conversion of a title, or to limit or cancel your access to a previously converted title, if VUDU reasonably believes the title does not meet, or no longer meets, the purchase and ownership criteria set forth in this paragraph.
They can remove your movies, based off the TOS, if they feel that you no longer meet the requirements (owning the physical copy). So yeah, you can listen to people and have them say it's completely safe to get rid of your movies, but I will let you know... read the TOS.

Xbox One users need to read their TOS as well, otherwise the 15 day ban from swearing at their Xbox One Kinect during Call Of Duty will be less and less (look it up on youtube!). Anything can happen =P

I never said that I was going to sell my discs.

Thanks, craiggers, for pointing out the TOS that most people never read.

Does anyone know if Vudu has ever revoked a movie based on this term? I think it would potentially setup and interesting legal case depending on the circumstances.

Obviously, the studios would like it this way, but I wonder if they really have cause to enforce this. I would be interested in following the case if one ever comes up. Lawyers tend to load-up contracts and terms with everything even if they aren't sure they could successfully litigate a case - a just-in-case if you will.

I've never seen it happen, but that doesn't mean it can't. There have been cases where movies lost their UV compatibility (intentionally or by mistake) and the forums went crazy with people swearing off Vudu/D2D forever so I think Vudu would be cautious when doing it, but I agree with others here. Don't post about selling your movies or using Netflix DVDs like some guy did before and you should probably be fine since a Vudu rep is unlikey to come knocking on your door to verify you still have the movies you converted.

Yes. I have done it a few times. Most often with a "First Episode Free" TV sample.

The process is to contact support (support@vudu.com). They will tell you to confirm and that the process can not be reversed. After you do so, they will remove any title you wish, assuming is was purchased originally from Vudu.

Actually, my understanding and experience is a little bit different. Vudu can delete a move you purchased or used D2D with them on, but if it is an Ultraviolet title, it will just reappear. I was told by Vudu, CinemaNow and Flixster that they can?t delete a movie from your Ultraviolet Collection.

I have also contacted Ultraviolet directly, and they too say at this time, there is not a way to delete an Ultraviolet movie from your collection. I wish there was, as there is a few free titles that I wish were not in my collection.

When vudu deletes a movie off your account it will be deleted from Ultraviolet providing that it was added to Ultraviolet by a transaction you did through vudu. It wouldn't be deleted from Ultraviolet if it was added by another service or UV member.

I tried over the phone with Vudu customer service to delete titles that I purchased/redeemed with Vudu, and the representative would delete the movie, and it would just add itself back. He said he could not remove a movie from UV once it is there, even if it was purchased/redeemed with Vudu.

Maybe there is a way to do it he was not aware of...
