Flixster D2D app now supports Blu-rays

The Flixster D2D app had a mandatory update so I don't know if this is just a coincidence or not but the D2D app now allows you to use Blu-rays for the D2D conversion process. The downside is that SD and HD upgrades are still $2 and $5 respectively but at least it's an option.

Seems like they snuck this capability in at some point.

Neat. It also does this annoying thing where if a movie had a UV code with it it won't let you convert. It gives you a message saying "This movie may have come with a UV code" and kicks the disc out. I tested out "The Eagle" blu ray and it gave me that message even though it's available and I do not have it in my account. Oh well.

I suspect this thread will be deleted soon though so you may want to post on other web sites.

I figure as much and I noticed the UV message as well. However, I don't have many UV titles which didn't already come with the UV code to test it out.

I tried the original Despicable Me release (w/o the UV code) and received that message but it isn't D2D eligible. I tried the original Exorcist digibook release (w/o the UV code) and it gives me the option to convert the title; w the latest release now comes with a UV code though. So, I'm not sure if that message is tied to all titles which came with a UV code or whether it's tied to titles that aren't D2D compatible but possibly came with a UV code.

Well, The Eagle is d2d eligible and gave that message Too bad Vudu doesn't have that one fixed yet.

Another thing I noticed. They now tell you when a movie you tried before but was not eligible becomes available. I had 2 movies show up on the bottom of the screen saying they are now available.

Interesting as I haven't seen that yet. I wonder if I would need to retry each disc so that it has a record of discs previously tried or whether the program already has an existing list.

I did not retry them. That would defeat the purpose They were 2 discs that I was having trouble with Vudu so I tried them in flixster months ago but they weren't available. Now they are and there is a picture of each one saying they are now available and if they are available in HD or SD only. You don't even have to rerun the disc. It saved it and just offers you the chance to purchase at the $2/$5 prices with no disc needed.

It's far from perfect, but at least half the movies I couldn't get the VUDU beta software to read are being properly identified by the Flixster app. The problem obviously is the higher price. There's no sales tax, but in the end it does cost an extra $2.84 per Blu-ray movie if I don't wanna take the discs to Wal-Mart. Then again, it's such a crapshoot with whether or not anyone at the Photocenter even knows how to do the D2D promotion that I may just use Flixster.

Wait, they charge $5 for a blu-ray to HD conversion? Screw that!

It's obviously nowhere near as good a deal as VUDU's. But if the VUDU D2D software can't read a bunch of Blu-ray discs(and DVDs for that matter) and Wal-Mart's Photocenter staff is totally unreliable, at least now we have an alternative.

I found it odd that Flixster hasn't announced Blu-ray support yet so I'm wondering if they're planning on announcing Blu-ray support during CES, as a part of any UV announcements, and just implemented it too early.

I did a few of my blu rays yesterday that Vudu cant do, and their system worked great. I did an e-mail asking why they cant do the half price deal like Vudu does. No answer yet.

Could be, and maybe they will lower the price at the time of the announcement.
