Plans for "Disney Movies Anywhere" to link to Vudu?

Wondering if there were any plans to be able to link the new disney service to Vudu in the near future. I understand that it's iTunes only at this point... But quite frustrated as I have financially committed to using the Vudu service. Thanks.

This is obliviously not up to Vudu. I'm sure they would love it if Disney linked to them. We have to wait and see if Disney has any plans for additional providers/partners. You could ask them directly and maybe if they get enough interest they would consider it.

The goal of the post was to find out from someone with VUDU if there is anything in the works that was not released with the initial press release. TOS mentions 3rd party providers.. Not just iTunes.

For anyone wondering what this discussion is about, you can read this engadget article for more information about this 'new' service from Disney.

Right now it doesn't link directly to Vudu (I seriously hope eventually it does!!!!) but the article mentions the possibility of eventually linking to UV in some fashion.

For now my own preference -- except for linking the D.M.A. account to iTunes (so I'd get the free film they offered, which, uh, I think I had already since I have virtually every Disney flick that has been available) -- I'm sticking with taking my digital copies from Vudu.

As noted here by others, the name Disney Movies Anywhere inspires hope that it would mean availability on any and all platforms, rather than being restricted to iOS based devices and/or computers where iTunes is installed (which is the current situation). No Android service = no sold for me. No Windows 8.x application also = no sold for me.

Eventually the Disney definition of 'Movies Anywhere' may line up with a more close to reality 'anywhere', but for now, yeah, the lack of Vudu/UV availability also = no sold.

Currently, iOS is 13% of the global cell phone footprint.

          Android = 79%.

iOS is down from the year previous (19%), indicating the global market is quickly consolidating on Android.

Further, the MPAA is best served with a consolidated digital rights locker system for providing mobile and in-home customers a method to view digital content which has an attractive ease of use to combat the illegal download of ripped media. Without which, the industry can easily bleed revenues with no end in sight.

A fragmented answer to illegal downloads will only serve to continue to make that option preferable. Sooner or later, the boys and girls in Burbank will need to get with the program.

I agree with the sentiment of your post, Walter, but the smartphone market is not the entire mobile market. The major selling point of DisneyMoviesAnywhere is that it can be used on tablets, and Apple has a much higher marketshare.
This Report says that iPad accounted for 54% of tablet sales during the Holiday shopping season. That is down from previous years, which means that total units in use is much higher, probably close to 70% of tablets in use are Apple. So this new app could be big. I do hope they eventually cave to UV, but that will require a big marketing push from UV, and much growth. I now have to revise my estimate, I don't think it will happen before 2016.

I would say the source "The Apple Insider" is a bit skewed from reality.

"For the first time, Android devices accounted for a greater share of the market in revenue terms than iOS," wrote Huberty in a note to her clients. "Android revenue share reached 46.2% in 3Q13, for the first time exceeding iPad share of 45.6%. Android's unit share grew to 66.7% from 58.5% a year ago, largely driven by Samsung and Lenovo, while iPad share declined to 29.7% from 40.2%."

I am still hanging my hat on this one being Disney Studios first UV release when it makes it around to in-home distribution.

Those numbers are direct sales from a given quarter. What I'm talking about is total units in use. That's what matters in terms of how many people are going to user DisneyMoviesOnline. vs who can't use it on their android tablet. Phone use for movies is minimal.

I emailed to express disappointment with iTunes only and they replied with "We look forward to adding additional provider options to Disney Movies Anywhere in the future that will be compatible with Android devices."

Re: Plans for "Disney Movies Anywhere" to link to Vudu?

One curious irony: DMA pulls its initial libraries from both Disney Movie Rewards and (if you link to it) iTunes. Thus, any DC-eligible (disc or DC+) movie for which you previously redeemed DMR points automatically pulls over to DMA (and iTunes), even if you never redeemed the DC disc or elected a different DC+ provider (i.e., Vudu). This ironically rewards folks who are not iSheeple by giving them HD access thru iTunes & DMA on their PCs on top of their existing providers (i.e., Vudu), while providing nothing new for iSheeple who redeemed DC+ thru iTunes.

In addition, those who ripped DC discs into iTunes will need to delete those files for a full DMA upgrade. While this was already true for most new iTunes redemptions (iCloud licenses include extras; most DC discs don't), all DC discs were SD; all DMA licenses I've seen in iCloud appear to be in HD (though that may not be true of DCs with DVDs -- all of mine came from Blu-rays). I can see that leading to complaints from iSheeple that won't apply to Vudu fans.

What remains to be seen is what happens with future DC titles -- will they be redeemable solely in DMA, or will they redeem simultaneously in DMA and a currently non-DMA service like Vudu (like all pre-DMA DC+ codes)? That could be answered today with Thor: The Dark World, but it may have to wait for the disc release of Frozen in three weeks. (I already know my Vudu copy of Frozen, from the in-store preorder, did not carry over to DMA.) Still, with DC+ codes redeeming in Vudu I suspect Vudu will eventually join DMA (along with Amazon & Google Play, the other DC+ providers).

We will NEVER use iTunes! We will stick with Disney Blu-rays until Disney gets with the program.

I won't use iTunes to buy any movies, but the DMR points I had redeemed from Digital Copy Plus transfered my movies to the DisneyMoviesAnywhere website, and a couple were upgraded to HD. So I may watch a few from the web.

Re: Plans for "Disney Movies Anywhere" to link to Vudu?

I'm kind of confused how that site works. I guess all my accounts aren't communicating correctly yet. I have a bunch of digital movies that show on the Disney Movie reward site, but don't show up on the DMA site or Itunes. I redeemed three old codes on iTunes tonight; Thor, Wall-E and Iron Man 2, and the last two show up on the DMA site, but not Thor or Captain America, which I had redeemed at some point or another.

I guess none of this really matters, as I'm not inclined to watch anything on iTunes, but I hope they link this service to Vudu at some point in the near future. Even if we don't get full UV support, it would be awesome to get Vudu copies of some of these movies that I own, without having to pay again.

that, IMHO, is flawed logic. The service life of a table is ~2-3 year. What matters is recent sales trends since the sliding window of what is in use tracks according to sales trends.
