    Buying pre-release on Vudu Idea

I bet the sales on pre-releases would dramatically increase if Vudu shipped you a disc copy when it becomes available. I enjoy my digital copies on vudu and have purchased a couple of pre-release but the fact that if I could get the disc version shipped upon release date Im sure I would purchase every single movie from Vudu. I dont think Im alone in this thought process. Its basically a reverse of buying a disc with digital copy, its buying a digital with disc copy. The mainstream consumer would be more open to the idea of purchasing a digital copy if they knew that a physical disc was on its way once the movie is released.

I was actually thinking the same thing the other day. It'd be like the Wal-Mart in-store preorders that come with the early Vudu copy and the disc is mailed for release day, but purchased online from Vudu. I'd be willing to pay an upcharge for the option (I realize that $14.99 for a new release disc w/ early digital access would be asking for a lot), but if they matched the price/package at Wal-mart I'd be in for sure.

For us it is a good idea, but for Walmart it isn't.
Because the pre-order + Digital isn't as good a deal, I'm sure Wal-mart also considers it like a loss leader intended to get people in the door. Company's spend lots of money to get you to walk into their stores, especially one like Wal-Mart that has all manner of needful things.
I assume they do it for the same reason they offer site-to-store shipping instead of spend $35 and get free shipping like Amazon. It'd be great if it was at a point where the profit point supported all online approach like you are suggesting though, but I'm not holding my breath as I'm sure they're looking out for their bottom line.

Depends on the price and whether it's UV or not. If a title is UV, they have to compete with Amazon.com. But I love the idea.
