    Walmart Disc to Digital Service

Does anyone know if Walmart has the same promotion in store where if you convert 10 movies it is 50% off the total price? Also, how long does the in store process usually take and do we as customers have the option of converting the movies ourselves? Thank you for the feedback.

The discount is for in-home D2D only.

You can''t do it yourself at Walmart. Time depends on the Walmart, anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour if they don't know what they are doing according to what people post here.

Actually, a few people have reported using kiosks in Walmarts where you can insert the discs yourself, but I haven't yet been able to get a location for one of those, and more importantly, the discount still would not apply.

Does it it is rely on disc recognition?, if so then it won't work on the discs that don't work at home.

No idea, but that's a very good point -- even if you find a kiosk, it may basically use VuduToGo D2D, and give us the same result. But I really just mentioned it as a possible exception to the "You can''t do it yourself at Walmart" comment.

This is the first I've heard of that. If this is true, I'd love to give it a go if there was one of these in my area.

Actually I think it would be relatively easy for them to allow the sale on an unrecognized disc, of course I guess that still depends on if this kiosk app has the same "fatal" errors for some discs that don't even allow reporting what the title was.. But as far as unrecognized discs i generally, really all that's needed is a method for the employee to do a visual verify and override the error. In turn, the verified disc data should be automatically sent back to VUDU as feedback for a system-wide update.

I suppose that would be an option, then its not really a self service Kiosk, kind of a hybrid

If that is the case, if it uses VuduToGo, then I would expect the discounts to apply since you are using the very product they are wanting us to "beta test".

Re: Walmart Disc to Digital Service

What I find odd is when I load a couple DVD's on D2D but don't process them as I wait to get 10 or more titles. Yet when I go to Wal Mart to convert Blurays my couple DVD that are still pending show up on Wal Marts computer and Wal Mart can even remove them for me but yet I can't have Wal Mart load my movies in my account and then go home and process them to get the 50% off. It's obvious D2D is communicating with Wal Marts computer system by listing my movies in their system. I'm curious as to why DVDs that my laptop can't verify can't be brought to Wal Mart and just verified and loaded by the Wal Mart employee then I can go home and finish the transaction for the discount. They are obviously linked somehow.

Also why does any newer title always say unable to verify yet I can bring the title to Wal Mart and it comes right up. It seems all this could be avoided if Vudu and Wal Mart allowed the 50% discount if you bring in 10 or more titles. At my Wal Mart it's me and one other customer who use this service (in fact Wal Mart has asked if they can use my email to train employees on the D2D service). You'd think Wal Mart would reward us early adopters.

Simple: because WM employees only visually verify the disc and (if needed) match it against a list of eligible titles in a search form to add it to your cart. That allows the title to be sold regardless of whether the disc itself can be recognized in the software.

why? why can I not get the promotional discount at walmart. I cannot get my pc to work with the download but I can make a pending list to copy and bring to walmart for verification. so why can't I get the discount after verification. either in store or in home after visiting walmart. disappointed.

Probably something about testing the in-home system being the reason for the discount.

Yes. It's beta still so they are probably using it to get more people to submit errors at the same time as promoting the service.

That, and it costs them more to maintain the in-store version, "train" employees and have employees spend their time figuring out the system and completing the transaction. They'd be smart to continue to offer an incentive for doing it at home, even after the software exits beta.
