What causes the "There was a problem while verifying this disc" error message?

I'd really like to hear from a Vudu insider as to what causes the "There was a problem while verifying this disc" error message within the V2G software and how to resolve it.

Quite a few of my titles which used to give an "Unable to identify this disc" error message, and I have over 100, now give the "There was a problem while verifying this disc" error message. This happens on multiple computers and seems like the problem is getting exponentially worse as time goes on.

Likewise, there should be a method of specifying which title / disc caused the error, so it can get resolved... Just an error message w/o a way to add information that might lead to a solution seems... silly.

It seems mostly (but no solely) double sided discs. I learned to dread opening my dvds and finding they were flipper discs. On the non-flipper side of things I get the error a lot on Lionsgate movies.

All of my issues apply with Blu-ray discs so no double sided discs here. Also, that doesn't explain why they went from not be recognized to there was a problem recognizing the disc.

+1 I would love to know what causes this as well.

Same here. I just converted over 100 movies and I got errors like that on about 10-15 discs. Another 30 or so won't let me convert from disc to digital for some reason, even though many are on both UV and Vudu, like The Amazing Spider-man for example. That's a separate rant though.

The problem verifying is especially annoying when only one in a series of movies doesn't work. Movie #2 in the Harry Potter series gives me this error, which means I'm probably going to have to pay $10 to complete my collection instead of $1. =/ One movie that gave me this error correctly identified when I tried it a second time. That only worked once though. I tried with one disc I really wanted converted ten times and I never got it to identify.

A third issue I had is some discs don't identify correctly. For example, Rambo First Blood part 2 identifies as the new Rambo movie, which keeps me from adding all the Rambo movies. Another Is there somewhere we should be reporting these problems?

A fourth problem I have, is some movies don't have their extended editions in digital form. With many movies this isn't a big deal. Unfortunately, with Troy and Kingdom of Heaven it's a huge deal. Heck, Kingdom of Heaven's theatrical version is a downright terrible movie. The extended edition the director originally wanted to release is amazing. It's sad that I can't convert that movie simply because only the terrible version is offered.

Well, your problem with Rambo 2 isn't going to be fixed until/unless they actually start to offer that title for D2D. As it stands right now, only the first one and the most recent one are UV enabled and eligible. The director's cut of Troy is available, but it is a pain to get. I had to take the Blu-Ray to Walmart, and it still converted as the theatrical edition, even though the Director's cut was clearly in my cart. It was difficult to get customer support to understand what was happening, but they eventually realized and switched it to the Director's cut for me. I agree with you about Kingdom of Heaven, but unfortunately Vudu doesn't even have the "real" version available. It is one of my top 10 most wanted titles at this point, and I won't even bother to convert the theatrical version.

I like to know why this happens so much, and when they plan on fixing it. Hopefully a fix is introduced before the end of June so we can still get our discount.

As a reminder, just because a movie is UV and on Vudu doesn't mean it is eligible for Disc 2 Digital. Eligibility is controlled by the studios. The Amazing Spider-man is not eligible at this time.

If I were to speculate, due to the fact that I have had discs recognized by both Flixster and Cinemanow, I would say they are titles no longer available for disc to digital, or ones that were accidentally flagged as such, but weren't originally supposed to be available for disc to digital. There is most likely not enough manpower to keep up with the maintenance of such mundane tasks like keeping up with thousands of titles that aren't flagged properly or working correctly.....

Sorry, but that's not it. They work in store. If they work on other providers, that is further evidence that they are not accidentally on the list.
It's a database or program issue, and newer releases my be deliberate.

Well, I did have 6 total that did not verify (among others I haven't tried yet).

4 of them I was able to purchase thru Flixster.

2 of them, although recognized, were not available on CinemaNow or Flixster's disc to digital service.

I would like to know this too. I have a few that I want to get converted. Whenever you bring this to the attention of VUDU the solution is always to take it to Walmart and have them do it there. The only thing is at Walmart they don't give the 10+ discount. I dread putting in a double sided disk. Also I checked the search browser at http://www.vudu.com/in_home_disc_to_digital.html and all of these should be able to do D2D, but none of them do.

So on the off chance that someone from VUDU who can fix this actually reads this. Here are the DVD's that I tried to convert that I got this error on.
