Re: What causes the "There was a problem while verifying this disc" error message?

I'm fairly sure it's an issue with the database or software, not a licensing issue.

    Some observations:

    1) IIUC, You can convert all of the titles in the list by going into the store (provided you can find someone who knows how to do it)

    2) I've had a couple of releases that did work with one DVD release, but not another (the original DVD release worked fine, but a DVD set that included the movie didn't)

    3) Some people have complained that the Blu-ray for a release doesn't work when the DVD does

    4) The increased likelihood of a dual sided DVD not being recognized compared to a single sided DVD.

    5) There are at least a few movies in D2D that have only had MOD DVD releases (eg, some by Warner Archive). Those one's will never work with the software because they aren't encrypted (IIUC) and the software wont work with DVDs that aren't encrypted. (I think there might also be a few titles that haven't even been released on DVD)

My guess is they put the movie into the list of D2D discs as soon as it becomes eligible, even if the database doesn't recognize it (yet).

I would like to know this too. I have a few that I want to get converted. Whenever you bring this to the attention of VUDU the solution is always to take it to Walmart and have them do it there. The only thing is at Walmart they don't give the 10+ discount. I dread putting in a double sided disk. Also I checked the search browser at http://www.vudu.com/in_home_disc_to_digital.html and all of these should be able to do D2D, but none of them do.

So on the off chance that someone from VUDU who can fix this actually reads this. Here are the DVD's that I tried to convert that I got this error on.

All of the Die Hard Movies
    Stealth Fighter
    And Justice For All
    The Dark
    Smokey and the Bandit
Look Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman
    Muppets from Space

    Beetlejuice - Double Sided
    Wild Things - Double Sided
    Silent Rage - Double Sided
    The Assignment - Double Sided
Eye of the Beholder - Double Sided
    Replacement Killers - Double Sided
To Die For - Double Sided
Rise of the Silver Surfer - Double Sided
All of the Tim Burton Batmans - Double Sided

Jackie Chan's First Strike, Mr. Nice Guy Double Feature
The Astronaut's Wife, Don Juan DeMarco Double Feature

And The Merchant of Venice Shows up as the wrong version.

Well, I did have 6 total that did not verify (among others I haven't tried yet).

4 of them I was able to purchase thru Flixster.

2 of them, although recognized, were not available on CinemaNow or Flixster's disc to digital service.

Milo & Otis, and Balto II

Sorry, but that's not it. They work in store. If they work on other providers, that is further evidence that they are not accidentally on the list.
It's a database or program issue, and newer releases my be deliberate.

As a reminder, just because a movie is UV and on Vudu doesn't mean it is eligible for Disc 2 Digital. Eligibility is controlled by the studios. The Amazing Spider-man is not eligible at this time.

I like to know why this happens so much, and when they plan on fixing it. Hopefully a fix is introduced before the end of June so we can still get our discount.

The problem verifying is especially annoying when only one in a series of movies doesn't work. Movie #2 in the Harry Potter series gives me this error, which means I'm probably going to have to pay $10 to complete my collection instead of $1. =/ One movie that gave me this error correctly identified when I tried it a second time. That only worked once though. I tried with one disc I really wanted converted ten times and I never got it to identify.

A third issue I had is some discs don't identify correctly. For example, Rambo First Blood part 2 identifies as the new Rambo movie, which keeps me from adding all the Rambo movies. Another Is there somewhere we should be reporting these problems?

A fourth problem I have, is some movies don't have their extended editions in digital form. With many movies this isn't a big deal. Unfortunately, with Troy and Kingdom of Heaven it's a huge deal. Heck, Kingdom of Heaven's theatrical version is a downright terrible movie. The extended edition the director originally wanted to release is amazing. It's sad that I can't convert that movie simply because only the terrible version is offered.
Well, your problem with Rambo 2 isn't going to be fixed until/unless they actually start to offer that title for D2D. As it stands right now, only the first one and the most recent one are UV enabled and eligible. The director's cut of Troy is available, but it is a pain to get. I had to take the Blu-Ray to Walmart, and it still converted as the theatrical edition, even though the Director's cut was clearly in my cart. It was difficult to get customer support to understand what was happening, but they eventually realized and switched it to the Director's cut for me. I agree with you about Kingdom of Heaven, but unfortunately Vudu doesn't even have the "real" version available. It is one of my top 10 most wanted titles at this point, and I won't even bother to convert the theatrical version.

All of my issues apply with Blu-ray discs so no double sided discs here. Also, that doesn't explain why they went from not be recognized to there was a problem recognizing the disc.

Likewise, there should be a method of specifying which title / disc caused the error, so it can get resolved... Just an error message w/o a way to add information that might lead to a solution seems... silly.
