Why are some movies not available on Vudu or any digital services?

It puzzles me why some movies are never released on Vudu, Amazon, Google Play, or Itunes. Some of my favorite movies only are available to buy via physical dvd such as:

    Armageddon
    Enemy of the State
    A Civil Action
    A Guy Thing
    Collateral
Con Air (although it is on Google Play)
    Ransom
    Rock
    Premonition

Why do the movie studios/producers not allow their movies on digital services? I would think it would be a win/win situation to make more money. Some of these movies are Jerry Bruckheimer films. Is he against "non physical DVD" sales? I wish someone could enlighten me because I don't understand it and wish I could get an answer on the matter.

Basically what you said it what happens. Movie studios dictate what movies are in the digital sales window at any given time. The positive thing is once they are in the sale window and you buy them or redeem a code for them then they stay in your library even when they go back out of the sales window. The bad part is waiting for the sales window to open. I'd love to get Gremlins, A.I. and many others but they have yet to appear in the sales window at vudu.

It can also vary by provider. Vudu can have something Itunes does not and vice versa.

Some movies are also dictated by the directors or so I've heard. That's why Star Wars and the Indiana Jones movies are not UV.

sorry to chime in like a broken record, but I feel it is important to remember that UltraViolet is the fasted adopted standard in MPAA history.

Yes, there are catalog titles missing, but five years after the pressing of the first bluray disc, there were massive amounts of titles not available in that format.

Collateral is available in HDX on Vudu but I believe the only way to get it is by UV code.

Yeah. Armageddon should be able to purchase in vudu.
The other ones are (pearl harbor - gone in 60 seconds with Angelina Jolie. Apocalypto- Grandma's Boy are more that need to be on vudu for purchase, NOT JUST FOR RENT. Everyone will buy this moviess..)

A Civil Action, Enemy of the State,Armaggedon and Con air are currently available to purchase at 17.99 on vudu (just not uv). Both Gremlins 1 and 2 were available at one time; I have both in my Vudu and UV library. So was A Guy Thing; in my library but not UV. I also have Collateral in my library UV code).

Gremlins is available as D2D. I have it in my collection using that. I don't know why it would be available through D2D and not for direct sale, but, if that's the case, you can get it that way currently. I checked the D2D search on the VUDU site, and it is showing Gremlins 1 &2 as available that way

People, please check the dates of the posts you are responding to. The original post in this thread was in 2014 and the person who posted it hasn't posted again since 2016. It's not too surprising that some movies have become available since then.

Studio choice. Usually due to contractual issues, especially 80!s and some early 90?s titiles.

                          That?s not why

the Weinstein?s own the movie, personally, lock stock and barrel, and it?s tied up in their bankruptcy.
