    Godzilla in Japanese with English subtitles

    I recently redeemed the codes that came with my Godzilla double features (blu-rays). Some titles had English dubbing while others were in Japanese with English subtitles. I must say, I was disappointed.

    I know different people like different things. Some people are original language purists, while others prefer dubbing to subtitles. As for myself, I'm split. On most foreign films, I prefer subtitles with the original language. With Godzilla films, however, I always prefer dubbing. Maybe it's nostalgia, but my earliest memories of Godzilla were of badly dubbed films airing on local UHF stations on Saturday afternoons. I guess in my subconscious, Godzilla and dubbing just go together.

    Also, I want to introduce these films to my seven year old, and I know there is no way I'll get her to sit through a subtitled film.

    I bought the Blu-Rays, so I can always pop the Disc in, but my favorite thing about Vudu and Ultrviolet is that I can put the physical disc in a storage container in the attic, and don't need it until there is an internet outage. It saves space as I don't need a shelf of Blu-Rays in the living room anymore. (Except, of course, titles that aren't on Vudu yet).

    I really wish that these HDX Ultraviolet versions were dubbed into English rather than subtitled. Or that Vudu gave you an option to choose which language you want.

    Oddly enough, I checked the streaming Ultraviolet for these same movies on one of the alternate non-Vudu Ultraviolet providers, and they were showing it dubbed into English. That's all well and good but those alternate providers aren't as easy to watch on my Television

    I brought this up with their support staff, too. I currently have a case opened with support about it, and I supplied images of my purchases of the blu-rays from a US distributor.

    As you alluded too, Flixster has them all in English dubbing.

    You will also notice that they used the wrong cover image for Godzilla vs Mothra..as they used the one from a Simitar release of the 1964 movie.

    They just recently fixed Godzilla vs Space Godzilla, which originally was only coming up in SD and not HDX.

            This is more personal preference. We can request to have the option added, but there are no guarantees that it can be changed.

                The 4 releases, 8 movies total, are all part of the same series. 5 are in English on uv, 3 are in Japanese....
                I think it is pretty normal for one to want them to be all uniform.

                  I think it is pretty normal for one to want them to be all uniform.

                  I have to agree with Stryerrocks67. There is a lack of consistency.

                  For example, take 'Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla'. If you go to the 'more info' tab on Vudu, it lists the language as 'English', but when you play it back, it's actually in Japanese.

                    I received an email back from customer service about my ticket I opened about the artifacting in G vs Megaquirus and the Japanese language issues...pretty cool..

                    "Hello Dean,

                    Thank you for contacting Vudu customer care.

                    I have notified our content team about the encoding issue with Godzilla vs Megaguirus. They are in the process of reaching out to the studio to see if they can send us a new encode of the the movie.

                    As for the other titles in question, we are also reaching out to the studio to see if they can provide us will English dubbed versions of the movies. This process can take as little as a week to as much as a few months."

                      I just checked and it's still in Japanese.

                      I hope they correct this one soon. Godzilla films lose a lot of their charm without dubbing.

                        This is a really old thread, but I'd still love to see these dubbed into English. Part of the fun of Godzilla movies is the cheesy dubbing. Original language Godzilla = not nearly as much fun.

                            This seems to be one that they have no intention or interest in correcting. And it *IS* a matter of 'correcting' because the default language on the disc is English. The Japanese track is a special feature. When you get the Disc and D2D it or redeem the code that comes with it, you do expect to get the same default version that is on the disc.

                            I never ever watch these movies on Vudu because of this language issue. I pull the discs (and I hate pulling the discs because it requires me to go to the basement and search through boxes to find it, etc. Vudu is so much more convenient). Part of the fun of a Godzilla movie is cheesy dubbing. It's part of the experience. If I were watching a serious dramatic foreign film, I'd want the original language track....but not with Godzilla. Not to mention the fact that I like sharing these movies with my eight year old. Do you know how easy it is to get an 8 year old girl to watch a subtitled movie? Trick questions. It's not easy at all. It's pretty much impossible.
