They could still go UV without participating in D2D though.

Re: The End of the 50% Conversion Special and Unresolved Titles

If the sale were keeping MGM out of the game then it would seem MGM would make their titles available for other D2D services. My suspicion is that MGM is simply playing their cards close to the chest.

It was just a theory. They could also be waiting for the program to you know, actually work most of the time.

I agree, it is like comparing apples to oranges. However, I've certainly had worse luck than you seem to have had. I convert a ton of movies from franchises and there is no shortage of errors at all. Movies from a franchise series coming up as the wrong sequel; boxsets with 4, 5 and 6 movies only being identified as 1 or 2 of the titles regardless of the disc; remakes coming up as the original and vice versa; flip discs not working at all more than half the time; and discs with multiple versions (i.e. Unrated, Theatrical, etc.) only coming up as one version when I want all versions... or at least missing the version that I always seem to want more. lol... And the multi-version problem is almost guaranteed.

I dread doing a batch of movies when they are of the franchise, remake/original and multi-version release variety. I really hate doing my boxsets. And when I open a DVD up to find a flip-disc, i don't hold my breath that it will work at all. The movies that fall in these categories are plagued with D2D issues.

And of course there are just your general variety bugs on top of it all. The general variety problems are more I think what you may have seen. (This is blind assumption I admit.) But I just don't see problems in that low of numbers. On an average evening of D2D, I am lucky if 60% of my movies don't have some sort of issue. Oh, and I didn't even mention the Blu-rays only being recognized as DVDs problem. lol

I stopped reporting problems in the bug thread since most never get fixed. And no one even seems to know what causes the verification errors except to say they will seemingly never be fixed. Some discs that used to work, now have the verification error so if anything, that particular problem is getting worse. Again, I do a lot from these more problematic movie types, but still...

After skimming what I just wrote, it looks like complaining. I guess it is some but I didn't intend for it to really come off that way. I still adore the service and take it for what it is. My point was that that the program is nowhere near prime-time. So I just really don't see Vudu's D2D program going out of beta anytime soon. Whether that means the 50% special will be extended again, i'm not sure. But I have to imagine they still need some sort of incentive like that to keep people from being too upset with the massive number of bugs.

Re: The End of the 50% Conversion Special and Unresolved Titles

I accept the fact that VUDU could end D2D at any time. My assumption is that it won't happen in the near term. I guess I have always regarded the special rate as intended to do exactly what it did for me - made me interested enough to start converting, which started me down the slippery slope of purchasing titles directly from VUDU. I have to believe that attracting and building market share will continue to be a need for some time - unless there is a better way to get there, the D2D system seems like an effective way to accomplish that (even better with a special attached). Frankly, if D2D was no longer an option I would likely be much more selective than I am today and spend less overall.

Most of my difficulties come with certain studios. I can usually correctly predict which of the participating studio discs in my collection will give me the most difficulty.

"Beta" can also mean "we don't wanna lock ourselves into doing this forever", whether they're debugging it or not.

It would be great if VUDU could give us official word on whether the date will be extended again or not.

The "official word" on their D2D page..."This Promotion is available from May 29, 2013 through June 30, 2014".

For me there is no clear pattern. Looking through my boxes of discs with problems I see no particular studio that causes more problems than another. Closest thing to a problem I can anticipate is any double-sided disc, as a high percentage of them cannot be identified. Even there, I can plug in and fail to ID 7-8 in a row and then have the next 4 work just fine.

Just to clarify, no one expects D2D or at-home D2D with VuduToGo to end any time in the foreseeable future, just the discount of 50% when doing 10 or more purchases with VuduToGo.

That's been there since shortly after the previous expiration; the last extension was posted here shortly before then. What folks are looking for is a statement from Vudu as to whether or not it will be extended past the 30th; I doubt that page will be updated till after the 30th.

That is the "official" date when the discount will end. Vudu's silence on this subject tells me that we better be aware that this discount will end at the end of the week. If I remember correctly, last time they told us that they would be extending the discounts 2 or 3 weeks before it was supposed to end. If they extend it then obviously I am fine with that, but I am expecting it to end.

Technically it ends at the beginning of next week, the 30th is Monday, but I would check out no later than Sunday in case there are any screw ups.
Daniel informed us of the last extension on Jan 22, 2014, when the planned end date was January 31, so we are close to that time frame right now, but prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Right, what I meant was that we have 1 week left...7 days.
