The End of the 50% Conversion Special and Unresolved Titles

I will be disappointed to see this special end. I have made a significant investment in D2D conversions of my movies on Vudu and I love the Vudu To Go service. Unfortunately, I am still facing a couple hundred movies that have long-standing issues (mapping incorrectly, disc not recognized, etc.) and the current forum list has grown to 75 pages. Seems a shame to have a special in place that can only partially be utilized.

It would help if Vudu was a bit more forthcoming about the plan forward for the unresolved titles. My preference would be to continue the special until the titles with issues could be more significantly worked. However, at a minimum it would be nice if we could at least get a peek behind the curtain at the process to resolve these titles.

I am happy to continue waiting for Vudu if there is a plan - I like Vudu a lot and exclusively convert here because of the great price and good service. The decision is easier for me so long as the 50% special is in place - I just keep the unresolved titles in a box and continue re-trying them from time to time. That being said, there are movies that I will want to see converted (The Last Detail, Starman, Fright Night, etc.) and if I am faced with a situation in which there is no 50% special and a big backlog of titles that remain non-convertible I may be forced to try another provider. For me, a D2D conversion is nearly always significantly more cost-effective than directly buying a UV version.

    Just my opinion.

The problem with keeping the discs that will not convert and waiting for Vudu to get those titles fixed is that it takes too long and it's possible that some of the titles may no longer be available for Disc-to-digital. I try not to wait any longer than 1 month before I throw the towel in and take mine to Walmart.

Anyway, this is the last month for the discount...so let's hope we get some additions to the list over the next week or two.

I personally think that the 50% off deal should keep going until they get the D2D system more fine-tuned. Even then, I think they should have some sort of discount for 10+ afterwards - gives us a reason to continue using Vudu's D2D instead of CinemaNow or Flixster.

I think they need to reduce the number of eligible titles to 5.
Since I have converted my whole collection, I am only waiting on new titles to be added or fixes to existing ones.
The fixes never seem to happen. So all I have is one new title waiting to be converted.

Hasn't the deal been auto-extended several times already? What makes you think it's actually going to end this time? I haven't seen anything, but maybe I missed it.

Not sure what you mean by "auto-extended", but Vudu made an active decision to extend the sale at the end of last summer and at the end of last year, because there were still issues with the program/service.
Those issues still exist, but they already have done 2 extensions, so it is not a given they will do another. We won't know for certain until the last week in June.

We may not know for certain till July. IIRC, when it was extended last year it wasn't announced ahead of time; they just kept the 50% discount going in VuduToGo and didn't bother to change the fine print till afterwards. OTOH, it's also possible that the special is tied to the number of titles in users' UV libraries (a key stat quoted by UV promoters); if they've reached their goals it's entirely possible they could end the 50% promo, if not D2D entirely.

Beta testing isn't related to sales, it's related to bugs and stability. If Vudu feels that they have a stable product that they, and their customers, can live with then I don't see why they would extend the date again.

For the last extension, one of the Mods, DanielH announced the extension of the discount in the forums a week or so before the end. The fine print was changed after.

The extension prior we also had some short notice.

I know they hooked me with the special and even if they do not extend, I will likely keep doing my Blus I get from time to time at the very least. When you become "vested" in a service, you keep using them and that holds true for me- at least until TargetTicket or CinemaNow gets a 50% discount.

Vudu's D2D is better than the other's listed - it is like comparing apples to oranges i have done over 800 conversions through vudu2go and the amount of titles that do not work is only a handful and at the point paying $2 at walmart for those is almost trivial. Yes, the 50% off is nice and maybe they will extend but saying your going to stop and go to target, cinemanow, or flixster is crazy the bugs there are far worse The flixster conversion took forever and the cinemanow conversion i had to call when 3 of 4 discs converted on to SD yet i paid $5 for each So regardless i will stick with vudu and only vudu/ when i need to i will go to walmart and have them convert the rest

What makes Vudu's better is that they have far more titles available for conversion. I have used the other two and they work great when you find a title to convert. I have only used them when Vudu ToGo didn't work for a title.

Also, if a disc doesn't work you usually have the option to report it with vudu. Either through the software itself or the error thread here. I've had some discs not read in the other services and one will just say "This disc is not eligible" even when it is. The other service will ask for a UPC and then give the same message or worse it will say "burned discs are not eligible" when it's not a burned disc with no way to report it. I get the burned disc message a lot with multi-title discs and Twilight Time blu rays.

No matter how slow they may be a fixing the errors, Vudu's error reporting systems is the best of the group.

Hope the discount sticks around. That will keep me converting regularly. It's a nice bonus that should be permanent.

I'd rather they end the sale if it means they could get MGM to start adding titles. Maybe the sale is keeping MGM back?
