    Pricing

    Begin rant.

Anybody else very frustrated with the pricing of digital titles? I find it difficult to bring myself to purchase titles on here when I know I can buy the bluray on Amazon for cheaper! And then I can at least resell the disc once I redeem the code. Would be nice if the pricing of digital only titles was a bit more reasonable!

    End rant.

I've heard pricing is controlled by the studios and they don't want to undercut DVD sales.

Now I am in the mood to watch some Next Generation!

And that does make sense, from a studio perspective I guess. However, being the consumer, makes little sense for me to buy just a digital copy for more money. Even though that is clearly the future. Very annoying. Guess I am stuck paying less for titles on Amazon and waiting a couple of days for them to arrive. Life is tough.

Yeah, i've heard the studios control it to not interfere with DVD sales. Paying 40-50$ for one season (Walking Dead , Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, Arrow, Etc) is insane to me. Most of the DVD/Blu Rays are 50% of the digital price. I think the studios are going to need to adapt, because people are eventually going to stop buying DVD's/Blu Rays, no matter if the studio likes it or not.

Right now it's best just to wait for the $7.88 sales, d2d or physical media with codes unless it's something you're desperate to have on digital like an HD title that's not on Blu Ray or d2d. We will probably see more sales once (if?) digital surpasses physical media.

Cheap DVD's don't help when you're at a hotel. I travel 4 nights a week, and I need my shows online. TV shows are rarely UV, and I'm not paying $50 for a second copy of a series.

It is strange to see shows from the 60's for $25-50. I can't imagine how the studios make any money on them if no one buys them.

I only get the digital version on D2D or if I can find it for a lower price than the BD. I'm more fond of Vudu though I have purchased occasionally from AIV or iTunes if the title is priced lower there.

                    Re: Pricing

I have paid the price for a few seasons. We don't have cable and Hulu Plus doesn't have everything. We use our Roku 3 (99.9% of the time) and if there is a new season of a show we like, and can't get it from Hulu, we sometimes buy it on a season pass.

I do agree though. (I can't see the current prices on Vudu as the main site is blocked here at work) As an example, I remember that Person of Interest season 1 and 2 were around $50 each to own on Vudu. Amazon had/has each season with the UV code for around $20.

                      Re: Pricing

                      I basically won't buy Digital-only at full-retail.

It's ridiculous, given DVD/Blu are cheaper and buying digital-only you don't get a physical copy, even though in theory you were supposed to get that option (no digital-only retailers are yet offering that option that I'm aware of).

So, I either buy the Blu when it's on sale and redeem the UV code, or I wait until the digital-only copy is on sale at the $8/hd (Target Ticket) or $7.88/HD (VUDU) prices, or I use D2D to convert my old DVDs to UV for dirt cheap.

Presently Digital-only's MSRP is ridiculous, given it's appx. the same as the physical media, just without the physical media backup. =o\ Studios need to get with it and lower the price on digital-only. It's all still basically pure profit for them (probably even more so than physical media, for which there is obviously production cost). Though, given the front-end provider takes a cut of the profit, maybe the margin isn't as high? I dunno...
