With VUDU now part of Movies Anywhere will Disney movies be a part of D2D at some point?

    #2
VUDU was part of DMA since the beginning and they haven't enabled it. Also D2D titles have only ever been UV. I can't ever image Disney ever doing something that consumer friendly, especially given how they have always priced their movies at a premium, regardless of age.

They do have Disc to Digital!

Each movie is only $17.99 to convert and you don't even need to insert the disc or scan a barcode, it is easy and convenient

Disney had their own version of this many years ago. I found an ad for it inside an old DVD case. Unfortunately it was discontinued, I can't imagine they would revive it.

Disney had Disney Movies Anywhere which shut down recently, and DMA became Movies Anywhere, so technically they did revive it, but with more titles.

            Nicely put!

Like others have said, Disney charges a premium for their products and I don't see that changing.

If I already own a Disney movie, that I can buy or rent on Vudu, then they should allow us to convert to digital! Trying to have all my DVD's on digital.
Why was I allowed to convert Narnia The Voyage of Dawn Treader, but not the other two! Makes no sense.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a 20th Century movie, not a Disney title. The other Narnia movies are owned by Disney.

I'll chime in here because I've done a little looking into this.

Disney is slowly re-releasing all of their titles with digital copies. Keep in mind though, this is only the DISNEY movies and not anything released through MIRAMAX.

As an example, you cannot get a D2D on Roger Rabbit, because it wasn't released under the DISNEY line.

Movies such as Mulan, Pocahontas, and Lio And Stitch, which did not come with digital originally, are being released with digital copies included.

Basically, Disney wants you to buy the movies again at full price to get the digital version, or buy the digital version directly through Vudu, again at full price.

I did place a call a few years ago asking about digital copies and was told: "eventually all our titles will be available on digital." What they didn't say was how they planned to do that. At the time, I was specifically interested in the first two Tinkerbelle movies, since those were released before the digital movie craze began. I also asked if older movies such as The Black Hole would be released on Blu-Ray (hopefully also with a digital version) and I was told: "all our movies will be re-released on the most relevant media at the time of their re-issue dates." Cryptic again, but I think they were eluding to putting titles in the vault and then taking them back out again.

Basically, Disney is doing whatever they can to maximize their profits on their movies, including how they are presented to the public. Considering the push to digital media, this will likely be the LAST time many people "buy" a Disney movie, and they know it.

Thanks for your input! I'm just tired of rebuying movies that I already own, but unable to convert D2D. None of my Indiana Jones or Coyote Ugly DVD's will convert.
