    D2D- First Timer

What a sad day this turned out to be. My wife and I spent a good couple of hours trying to transfer all of our blu-rays over, only to find out that they are either not eligible yet, could not verify the blu-ray disc or the worst yet; Dolby digital stereo or Dolby digital 5.1. So, going all VUDU/Ultraviolet is completely out of the question. We payed for a disc that has the best picture quality and sound and then pay for a downgrade to put it in the cloud. We have thousands and thousands in audio/video equipment to play our movies in Dolby stereo and plain 5.1? No thanks. Is any one else a bit irked by this?

To me, Vudu is more about portability. I use my Blu Rays when I'm home so I can enjoy the TrueHD. You asked, color me not irked.

Yes, Disc 2 Digital and Ultraviolet have a lot of negatives, but the positives are greater and are getting better all the time. Besides not being a completely static format as stated above, they also have the following things going for them.

        - I had a huge DVD collection that I was not extremely interested in repurchasing on BluRay. D2D has allowed me to upgrade hundreds of these movies for a minimal cost and reduce the clutter on my selves.

        - I now have the ability to watch almost my whole film collection anytime I want and anywhere I am. I'm going to bring my Roku to my father-in-law's house this week, and we will have the opportunity to watch almost anything we want without having to bring a selection of discs or pay for rentals.

        - I don't have to search through hundreds of discs to find the right one for my current mood. I can simply scroll through a menu. When Vudu gives us better sorting options, this will be even more true (hint, hint)

        - Yesterday, my wife and I were watching a recently released movie. She got a phone call and left the room. Instead of having to pause the movie or rewind, she simply went upstairs, put on the same movie, rewound it to the point she had seen up to, and proceeded to watch it while I continued to watch it at a later point downstairs. That is pretty impressive.

So no, you are not currently getting the best possible picture and/or sound by going UV. You don't get the best sound quality from MP3s either, but you do get convenience from both. To me the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Just be glad you didn't take the time and gas to go to WalMart to do disc to digital there. Almost all Wal Marts have upgraded their systems to a Fuji based system which doesn't recognize Vudu at all. It will log on but get stuck at the final step in loading your movies to your account. When you call Vudu CS they act like they've never heard of this issue before and just tell you to go back to Wal Mart another day (wasting more time and gas). Like you I have titles my laptop won't recognize and want to load but since Wal Mart can't do D2D either I'm stuck at this point. I want to give Vudu my money but their system of not recognizing discs from your home computer and Wal Mart not being able to complete D2D makes this very troublesome. But neither company seems to have no clue what the issue could be.

My wife was telling me the same thing. She says we use the Blu-Rays for the home theater and use vudu/ultravoilet content for portability when are we gone or for the other TV's in the house.
