    Re: At-Home D2D VS In-Home D2D - Max disc usage

I would love for every movie on disc I own would convert but lets face it VUDU wasn't meant for this in my opinion. It's my belief home D2D was tossed out there like an apple to get physical disc owners to bite. I think we all know there is such a push toward streaming and that's the model VUDU want's its consumers to go to. You can see in the brick and mortar stores how much the movie sections have shrunk (yes Amazon has made a difference too).

I honestly believe the D2D was to get serious movie collectors on board. If you're using D2D then you are a collector of movies more than the casual person who simply rents. Renters don't really care and streaming makes much more sense for them. Collectors on the other hand love having a physical copy (at least I do) and it's hard to break that habit and rely only on a cloud based collection.

Back on topic.... Why would.. VUDU be so concerned with D2D when they're not making any money off it? I've converted a ton of my collection but make sure I get the 1/2 off deal. I've spent probably a $1,000 or more and that's a lot for a consumer but how much of that went to VUDU? How much goes to the studios? I have to believe the majority went to the studios or maybe all of it.

Funny thing is I'm not here to defend VUDU or do I work for them. Yes I would be really pleased if everything I own I could convert. But VUDU is not a monthly service you're paying like a Netflix, Hulu, or even cable television. It's a-la-carte so you're only paying for services that are available if there. I've got some discs I'll have to use a competitor site to D2D that VUDU doesn't recognize. Going to cost me more and wish I could use VUDU instead but that's the way it is. Bottom line is D2D is a convenient way to get your personal collection in the cloud for cheap but it doesn't have to provide you with every movie ever owned.

Edit: What Craigger is going through is completely different than what I'm talking about. I completely understand his frustration. I have no desire to try any D2D at Wal-Mart as that would frustrate me too much.
