Disc to Digital for non-UV movies?

Re: Disc to Digital for non-UV movies?

Until about a month ago, the D2D did include a few non-UV titles (you had to be certain to D2D them on your main viewing account - no UV locker license delivered, obviously). But this appeared to have been an oversight, and all those titles have been removed (and probably rightly) from the D2D program.

Now only UV titles are D2D.

I agree with EchoPulse. If you'd like to see more D2D and more UV, we need to request it from the various distributors. Would love to see more UV from MGM, as well as Criterion, Magnolia, Weinstein Company, etc.

I have both versions in my account. It may have been a D2D title when the program started. Unfortunately, titles come and go from being eligible.

I don't see that as an eligible title. I do see Ghost in the Shell as eligible but not this version. The one you linked to is 1995 84min long and listed as 2.0 (great movie by the way), but the ones eligible are from 1996 and are 82 mins long.

They are all for this version which is UV compatible:

Vudu does however sell movies that don't have UV. They also offer Instawatch copies through their parent company, Walmart. I don't see why they can't make it easy for me to get non-UV copies. The only reason I have gotten semi-officially, it is even stated in the app, is that all disc to digital movies are UV compatible.

MGM has about 60 titles that are UV, but they don't participate in D2D, yet. If you want more titles in the D2D program, ask for more titles to be given UV status first. The Sandlot was just given UV status at another provider, so vudu should get it eventually.

I have written MGM asking for more UV titles, I suggest more people do the same.

As I already own these I would feel better about paying $1-2 each to make these accessible in my VUDU library than I would paying $10-20+ buying them again when I already have them on bluray. Some examples of these are Back to School, Birdcage, Hoodwinked, Horns, Sandlot, Teen Wolf, etc. Many of which the VUDU only digital copy costs more than the bluray.
Vudu would allow it if they could, but as you said that's a studio thing and they are definitely the ones to contact. Also, keep in mind that MGM is like Disney in that it does not participate...
