    CinemaNow vs VUDU app?

I saw in another thread that there are some titles that are recognized and allowed to be purchased via the CinemaNow app that the VUDU Disc2Digital app can't recognize. Is that only 2013 and newer discs or are there also catalog discs that this is true for? I am trying to determine if it is worth effort to install CinemaNow app and go through my remaining discs to double check. Also CinemaNow only does DVD right so I am still out of luck with unrecognized Blu-Ray's right? Is everything D2D on CinemaNow converted to UVVU so I should be able to access via VUDU app on devices? Are there any other D2D apps? I saw Kaleidescape but that is only their players right not standalone PC program?

    Thanks.

There are some older titles that were recognized by CinemaNow that weren't by Vudu D2D. There were also, IIRC, a handful of titles that were eligible under CinemaNow that weren't under Vudu D2d. I don't know if these are still true. Overall, though, Cinemanow's list of eligible titles is much smaller (and, of course, there's no discount, so it's more expensive).

    Correct.

I think everything is UV, but can't guarantee it. (Though I think the uv icon should pop up on the screen so you can see). Keep in mind, though, there are some titles that are on UV that aren't in Vudu's catalog. Sometimes they convert over (so you can get it through UV and watch it on vudu, but wouldn't be able to buy it on Vudu). And sometimes they don't.

Are there any other D2D apps?
Flixster used to offer one, but they stopped a while back. That's it, AFAIK.

      Re: CinemaNow vs VUDU app?

Out of my ~400 dvd only collection, about 80% were recognized and/or allowed D2D through VUDU. Of the ones that "were not recognized" on VUDU, I found about 4-5 that Cinemanow recognized and I paid more to get done. I believe they were older movies.

I would say it's worth it to install the CN app AFTER you are done using the VUDU app to get your collection converted, then try the CN for the remainder that weren't recognized by VUDU.

kaleidescape also offers d2d but you have to have one of their super high end players to use the service. https://www.kaleidescape.com/files/d...-UV-Offers.pdf

That was what I was thinking. I have run my collection through VUDU once and got most and then once again missing through VUDU to get a few more. I will do a pass on remainder (less than 50) on CN just in case.

            Thanks everyone for the responses.

I forgot to ask, do you happen to remember which movies those were? Any of them? Or at least maybe a common studio among them like MGM, WB, etc?

One common factor is that a significant number of them are double sided discs (not surprising, given that Vudu's software has difficulty with double sided discs).

Yep. I thought about getting the cheapest model at one point when I came into some money. Then I came to my senses But that is how I found out about their d2d service.

A couple were able to read when I flipped to the other side. Some just couldn't recognize. None of my tv series would read.

Some VUDU couldn't identify no matter what, but CN did.

I don't recall what movies didn't redeem on either app, but I'm sure it was because of UV rights. I even recall one or two WB movies that wouldn't redeem, yet I thought I read that WB allows most (all?) of their movies to redeem?

                      TV series aren't eligible.

As was stated, No TV shows are D2D eligible.

Not all WB movies are D2D eligible, but they're probably one of the best represented in the D2D list. But even then, there are definitely some WB movies that are D2D eligible on vudu, but that don't work through the app, and do work on CN. For example, Baby Face.
