Legality of using a barcode gen when Convert in App and Convert in Home don't work

So now that Vudu has stopped the bringing disc to Walmart, I'm wondering what the legality of using a bar code generator on a known working blu-ray UPC if both options fail? For instance you own a version of a specific movie that is listed as a D2D on VUDU's website, but neither the Disc or the Barcode is being read.

There was a 170 page thread on disc that didn't work with the original system and barely any of those got fixed. Excuse me if I doubt posting in a new thread for this new system works any better.

Yep. They are fixing them. Not sure how fast they are going but I'm assuming they have a lot to fix. Of my day-one failures there are still about 3 that haven't been fixed. I'm kinda shocked they haven't deleted or locked this thread.

I can't say for sure that it's illegal, but it's definitely against the Vudu Terms of Service, and they could terminate your account if they knew you were using one.

If you have a non-working UPC for a legit eligible D2D title, please add it to the forum post.

Because fixing it in the system (and VUDU has added almost 12,000 new UPC to their database in the last week or so) fixes it for everybody.

And they seem to be paying attention to the data we're posting.

It's true, the old thread for the V2G app (in which people delivered UPC data) didn't get much fixed, but then the V2G app didn't actually scan for UPC data, so that data wasn't that helpful.

This is kind of a double whammy for people who have bought Blu-ray's in the past where the UPC was on the cellophane wrapper, in my case the movie The Right Stuff. After all these years this movie fails to be recognized via Blu-ray when using the disc to digital conversion. With Walmart no longer doing conversions what's the recourse? There is none.

The UPC code stuck to the shrinkwrap is usually for a store's inventory/pricing info, not for the title info. That one is not going to be recognized anyway. You need to scan the one on the disc cover art.

You realize that checking a UPC is quite a bit less involved than validating discs? Physically obtaining and processing discs is labor intensive and costly. Not to mention that even within specific UPC's, it's quite possible to have numerous variations of a disc that would all be seen as unique due to updated protections, fixes, content updates, etc. The alternative is to require a minimum number of hits from unique users before they accept the incoming data. Nobody knows what is really going on behind the scenes, maybe this is what they were doing but the bar is set so high that these seem to rarely get fixed.
