    Disk to digital conversions

    1. Just like a lot of customers are I consider myself a valued cloud library customer. I love to watch movies so being able to watch my movies on the go on any acceptable device is great. I loved the promotion Vudu had going on for a while where if you convert 10 or more dvd's you get 50% off when you do the transaction from your PC at home even though the general price(s) for converting isn't bad either 50% off of 10 or more is better. I hope Vudu reconsiders bringing back that promotion on a permanent basis and I hope that you can make that offer available when you do the transaction on the PC as well as eligible smartphones.

    2. And another situation I hope gets resolved when I try to convert some of my movies I check in the D2D search box to see if it is D2D compatible for example: The Marva Collins Story w/ Cicely Tyson it shows in the D2D search box that it's D2D compatible but when I put it in my disk player to read the disk or I scan it on my smartphone it doesn't acknowledge the movie but to make the situation worse now Vudu doesn't let customers go to Walmart to convert dvd's anymore if the movie is D2D eligible but my PC or smartphone wont acknowledge the movie so I don't have no way of converting the ones that won't read my dvd's can Vudu please get technical support involved on getting the movies that are D2D compatible that are not acknowledging our movies so we can put our movies in our cloud libraries since we can't go to Walmart any more please

    Re: Disk to digital conversions

I logged into tonight planning to add a few dozen discs to be converted but just found out the discount is no longer available. I recently converted 50 plus titles to my account (mix of blu-ray and DVD). I had planned on doing many, many more but without the discount I just can't justify it anymore. I've seen many other customers online saying the same.

Hopefully they'll bring it back permanently or for special occasions. If they do they should make an effort to give notice to their customers so we can plan accordingly.

Agree with the rest of you -- been setting aside some money from each of my last several paychecks to convert my movies... However without the promotion that simply won't happen. $5 is a bit too much for something I already spent good money on. Guess it will collect dust until they re-activate the promotion. It's been up and down many times over the years from what I gather... Just going to have to wait it out.

VUDU could charge what other competitors are charging on DVD UPgrades

        $5.00 vs $5.99

I wrote them about this exact thing. I still have a few hundred to left to convert and the 50% off is/was a huge incentive. I'd think they would prefer getting sales from a person converting 200 movies at 50% versus no sales. It's like they switched gears to a one-off customer rather than a bulk converter.

Been 7 days since I wrote - no response from Vudu :/

I don't know how y'all are getting DISKs to convert. This app is for DISCs and UPCs. Two different things.

...and yet we all still know what each other is referring to since, you know, this is a movie site.

And so people should know what it's called. Thanks for making my point.

Not necessarily. Preference all depends on how much studios are charging them for the d2d. No studio is just going to give away codes for free so Walmart is undoubtedly paying something. If the price was somewhere between $1 and $2 per copy then Vudu was losing money on each bulk conversion but considered it an acceptable loss leader to get people to build up their libraries. But now that competitors have dropped out and people who bulk convert already have large libraries Vudu and Walmart don't really need to lose money in order to gain customers. $2 is a great selling point for a digital copy. Just look at the secondary market for physical codes and you can see that most of the older codes go for about $2.

The only reason the promotion was kept going for so long is because d2d wasn't something that simpletons could figure out or lazy people would do. You had to download a program then put discs in a drive. And that also meant you had to have a blu drive which most computers don't come with. That meant 3 obstacles to converting which also meant that there wouldn't be a large amount of people doing it. Now the conversion has turned into a simple point and click which means a lot more people will be doing it.

And they are rapidly adding those barcodes that are currently non working. Compare that to the fact that they never updated the discs that wouldn't read correctly.
