    Disney's Disc to Digital Standings

I recently started using VUDU within the past year and its been great. I just discovered their disc to digital program about 6 months ago and have slowly started to add more and more titles to my library. Though, many of the movies that i own were produced by Disney such as Star Wars and Marvel, and i noticed that they were all not eligible for the disc to digital service. I did some research on the subject, but the only sources that i could find dated back to 2013. Seeing as its been almost 5 years since then, i just wanted to know if anyone knows about Disney's current standing on the disc to digital conversion. They have linked up their Disney Movies Anywhere to places like VUDU, so i am hoping that that was a step in the right direction.

Keep your fingers crossed but don't hold your breath it will ever happen.

The D2D program is an UV thing, which Disney is not a part of. I would bet my house it will never happen.

Thanks for the feedback, is there a public forum or anything that anyone has started? Is there a way to contact them to recommend it to them? I understand that it is unlikely to happen, but maybe if enough people bother them about it they will.

They are very aware people want it, but like joining UV they're not into it. They also have the highest digital prices out there, their "sales" on deep catalog tend to be higher than digital SRP from other studios.

Don't expect them to do it, ever, and if they do they'll do it through their own app.

Yeah, if they did anything like that it would be on their own software, and probably only allowed via DMA, but with accounts being synced, I could see those transferring to other linked accounts. Disney would also more than likely make all of their other studio titles (Walt Disney, Touchstone, Hollywood, and possibly ABC all DMA.

Re: Disney's Disc to Digital Standings

I'm perhaps a bit less skeptical than some that eventually Disney may offer up some sort of Disc-to-Digital type program, but I temper that a bit with the concern that if they do, they will still likely offer only a tiny discount for those conversions. If they hold out, they'll collect as much as possible from their captive audience. If they give in and give what people ask for, they may be able to collect some cash that otherwise they couldn't have gotten.
Striking the balance for them would be the job of their bean counters and I have to think that if they saw a huge pot of revenue to tap into quickly they'd take it (Disney is, after all, about the almighty dollar). The thing is that as things now stand they have that potential pot of revenue in reserve, sitting on the bench.
If they get desperate for cash, they could flip on a disc-to-digital offering and collect gobs and gobs of cash. If they wait most of that cash will be there later, and meanwhile the suckers, uh, customers, like us that have no patience, no willpower or uh, just have children we want to get a digital copy for will run out and pay our disposable income to get those digital copies just so we can entertain our young ones or watch an old favorite because we love it that much.

So, to summarize: I wouldn't hold my breath, and I wouldn't bet my house for or against. It may come, but with Disney it won't come quickly.

I very much doubt that Disney would participate in Ultraviolet. Just look at some of the Disney "sales" that VUDU has had in the past -- $14.99 for a catalog movie is really a sale? I'm disappointed that MGM is not part of UV but occasionally they do show up in some of VUDU's more reasonable sales. I've never seen a Disney title listed as part of VUDU's montly sales. I guess we are all suckers...I have over 80 titles in my DMA library

Disney sale titles are always listed on their own, not mixed in with other titles, like this one going on now...
