    FORREST GUMP UPGRADE TO HDX?

I chose to upgrade my Forrest Gump DVD to HDX. It's showing with black bars on the right and left of the picture. The description says enhanced widescreen. Can't be. It's a full screen picture cropped at the sides. Looks like an old movie on an HD channel on cable TV that isn't broadcasting in HD.

Would love to have the HD enhanced widescreen version I should have received if possible.

    Thank you.

    Is it windoboxed or pillarboxed?

It it fills the screen top to bottom then it's pillarboxed which would be very odd (in this century ) for a 2.35 Panavision (not Super 35 matted) film.

This would be an old pan & scan version (made for 1.33 SDTV) which crops over 45% of the picture information.

If you see black bars all the way around that is windoboxing.

It's a pan scan version for standard TV's with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Exactly my point, it's like watching an old movie on TCM. Not HDX. I work for a cable company and I'm aware there are still people with old standard TV's but not too many.

Just a not very relevant point but TCM does an outstanding job of presenting classic films in the proper aspect ratio, OAR, and if it is 4:3, it is almost certainly because that is how it was originally shown in theaters.

I reported this to our content team so they can request the correct stream from the studio.

Thank you Jake. I appreciate your help. Chris, I agree TCM is very good at presenting old films. I love the channel. I'm sure when Forrest Gump was put out on video it was for 4:3 fullscreen TVS in 1994. My first copy of the movie was on VHS.

Thanks again Jake. Love your service.

              FORREST GUMP UPGRADE TO HDX?

Still waiting for an HDX version of Forrest Gump. I paid for an upgrade and received a pan scan version. My standard DVD of the movie is in widescreen and looks way better than what I received with my D2D upgrade. Really, nobody should be receiving a pan scan version when upgrading to HDX.

Sounds somewhat like my version of HDX of Domestic Disturbance. It is so grainy that it doesn't look much like HD IMO. Also, my HDX version of Peaceful Warrior only worked until the 1:18 timestamp and then starting having just static as audio. I don't know how long it will take to fix because they said they need to go back to the studio for another copy. D2D has been far from perfect.

Yes, I just noticed my Forest Gump is also pan & scan, even though it says widescreen on the details page. Please get this fixed.

Re: FORREST GUMP UPGRADE TO HDX?

I emailed support about this and they said that this movie isn't available in Widescreen format. That's strange because the details page for the film says it is HD widescreen and I paid for HD. If it's not available, it shouldn't be advertised as such!

I'd be asking for a refund, even if it meant giving up my digital copy. I'd rather be stuck with just the disc than have a crappy, cropped digital copy.

I would like a $5.00 credit put on my account. Vudu can remove the digital copy of Forrest Gump. As I said, my standard DVD looks wayyyy better than the supposed HDX copy of the movie I received.

Echo, I agree. It does state the movie is presented in enhanced widescreen. I understand things can happen, I really do but make it right. It's been 1 month since I added Forrest Gump to my movie collection. After today I'll have 134 movies in my Vudu account. I really love the service and would like this corrected for me and anybody else who didn't get what they paid for. The description still states the movie is enhanced widescreen. Fix it. The description is still misleading people into thinking they'll get an upgrade of the movie by converting their standard dvd.

When I make a movie list now, I check each movie through my Vudu wishlist to make sure it's presented they way it's advertised. A tip for other Vudu users, watch the 2 minute preview of the movie in HDX before adding to your list for D2D. What you see is what you'll get.

Warning: Deep Impact is listed as enhanced widescreen. It's pan scan.

A 2 minute preview would not have helped me with "Peaceful Warrior" in HDX because the movies audio turning into static doesn't occur until the timeline 1:18.

I'm sorry that happened lu. I use the 2 minute preview only to view the screen format. Audio would be tough to check.
