Re: 11 Days Left in January - Show me the HD!

Heres a little tip for all of you that are eagerly awaiting the new release. Ive noticed that when there are bigger updates (which this one is obviously), that my unit is "on" after its done. I always leave my unit off, so one light is green and one yellow. Then, magically, after updates, both are green. So, unless they fix the fact that a reboot makes the unit turn "on", that will be a good indicator.

Hope that keeps you from bugging the wife...

Actually, this update isn't that large. You already have the content in the latest databases that have been coming down over the last few weeks. The firmware update takes about 10 minutes to download and install.

The reason your box is "on" after software updates is that the box reboots itself during the process - it actually boots itself twice. It downloads the firmware and then likely decompresses it and sets up the install. It then boots into what I assume is a bootstrap or "loader" mode where it does the firmware install with all essential services not running. Then once that is done, it reboots again and fires things up as normal.

As we have stated before - you will know very, very clearly when this is pushed down to you.

Thats what I was getting at. The fact that its a firmware update, the box reboots, and when it reboots, it ends up in the "on" state.

By the way, once the update is downloaded, will HD movies be available right away, or will the heads have to download, and if so, how long until we can watch HD?

At this time I don't know. VUDU is constantly receiving DB updates. It is possible that there could be "pre-seeded" content in the database just waiting for a new software version.

I believe the database that everyone has is the same as we have now. So it should be right away. I can't imagine why Vudu would not seed the movies to everyone first.

Well... like a kid on Christmas morning, I woke up and ran to my TV hoping that VuduClaus had visited last night. No joy. No love.

We are trying to get an estimate of when the build will be released. I am still hoping for today. As soon as we know anything or can tell you, we will let you know.

I just turned on one of my Vudus and see a screen telling me that it just did an upgrade and measured my quality for HD. It says I am good to go with over 4 MB. I'll try it out later. My wife is watching an SD movie on another Vudu.

However, it isn't showing any new HD movies yet. I guess that will come later.
