    B&N launching UV-compatible Nook Video

While Amazon was the "first UV retailer" back in January at CES, it looks like Barnes & Noble may beat them to the punch with UV support. They're launching own Nook Video service this holiday season which will support UV and be usable on non-Nook smart devices.

This sounds kind of cool, although I hope it would use the CFF; otherwise, you'd need uninterrupted data access and very high or no data caps. Personally, I'm able to amuse myself during trips, but once I get somewhere I like to watch my content on a bigger screen.

Yeah. Since CFF doesn't reach the consumer until early 2013 now, I'd bet they would at least have temporary download formats for mobile devices (like Flixster does) and hopefully plays CFF when its ready.

Well hopefully the app should be out within the next two months for us to use it on our aOS phones and tablets

"The Nook HD+ starts shipping in late October and will hit Barnes & Noble stores in early November."

Oh, right! I forgot I have the Nook app on my iPad. I don't have a Nook, so I never bought any B&N content, so I never use the app. My guess is the video streaming will only be for the tablet, not the app, but if you're right, that will be HUGE.

B&N said they will be launching a new Nook Video app on non-Nook smart devices (which we assume will include Android, iOS, smart tvs, etc.)

The new Nook Tablets look nice. Only drawback for me is their small app store and they will probably try to block sideloading apps.

Great to see another UV member, excited to see how their video store will look. I'm fortunate in that out of 110 VUDU movies I have, 106 are UV compatible. Hopefully they'll show up and can be sorted alphabetically, imagine that ;-). I think the lack of a cloud music store to go along with it like Apple and Amazon have will hurt them though. I really wish Amazon would go full fledged UV as well to give UV a nice shot in the arm.

Yes, having another UV retailer with known launch dates is nice. We'll definitely see newcomers Nook Video and M-Go both launch new video services that support UV this year. Not so sure about when Amazon will launch UV. I thought it would have been by now. Hopefully this year or early next year. Hopefully more big name retailers like XBox and Sony go UV next year.
