I cannot believe how FAST this movie is making it to blu-ray. I will get the 3D edition on release day. If Walmart offers a pre-order with advance HDX UV, I'll get that instead.

I am sure Peter Jackson is already mulling over an "expected journey": an extended edition.

Perhaps that will come after the entire Hobbit Trilogy is over and done with.

I think in part that is why this is a slightly early release, they are going to releasing the Standard edition now and the Extended cut will be hitting Quarter 4. They accidentally sent out a release calendar with it stated and then retracted it straight afterwards. Peter Jackson himself has been talking about the Extended edition, saying it'll be roughly 20-25 minutes longer than the theatrical release. This will probably be one of those few times I'll rent the initial release off Vudu and hold out till The Extended editions before purchasing.

I don't see where the Extended editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy added much to the story so I don't think The Hobbit Extended edition would add much either. I purchased the theatrical of The Lord of the Rings and will probably only purchase the theatrical of The Hobbit. Also, the theatrical versions are already long enough, I don't want the versions that are even longer.

WOW! Another hot movie coming to disc soon with UV:

No release date yet, but amazon is taking preorders for this upcoming Universal release for $24.99 (hopefully it will go lower).

A negative bit of news here, it looks as though Cloud Atlas now isn't going to be available 2/5 and has been pushed back. Shame, I was really looking forward to watching it.
