    buffering problem

I enrolled for Vudu, last night attempted to watch a movie. Got "buffering" every 10 seconds or co till finally got a error message.

Called tech support. On for about 20 minutes could solve problem. Passed speed test, etc.

They stated for me to run a trace and email back so engineer could look.
    Waiting answer today.........
Vudu has a good concept about movies, but it got to work! We watch netflix on streaming but they didn't have current movies streaming. so we were trying something else.
I am pretty tech confident. I feel they is a problem with Vudu and their upstreaming. (Maybe they should hire engineers from netflix, amazon, etc.)

In looking at the forum....it seems buffering is a vudu problem.

Hopefully can resolve problem.....I like the format for vudu....But it has to work. If not I will cancel membership.

    Re: buffering problem

Yes! It's such a great service in theory, but unless it works correctly, it's useless! I too get the buffering problem despite a rock solid 12Mbps internet connection. Unacceptable!!!

      Re: buffering problem

The buffering is very frustrating. The movies will run smoothly for the first 44 mins and then will start to buffer every 10 seconds or so! I have tried to watch 3 movies so far and can't seem to get through one of them. If this is the way Vudu works, I won't be a customer for long.

Every movie you watch starts to buffer at the 44min mark?

          Re: buffering problem

I have the same problem, on more than one device.. I get the buffering on the Oppo 95, which is my favorite due to the ghigh quality.. I also get buffering on the Vudu Box with built in Hard disk, even though the movie is downloaded.. I agree, I will not rent or purchase any more movies until this is fixed.. I have 15Mbit down stream and all bars are green on Vudu.. Test is showing HDX..

Another question, why can I not purchase HDX movie, why the useless SD format?!?

I also have this problem on my PS3 Didn't even get to watch my free movie because of this. I have tryed putting my PS3 on DMZ and it will now run the network test and pass at SD (fine for me since I only have an SDTV) and I get buffering every 10 seconds...absolute rubbish.

              Re: buffering problem

It seems like the buffering occurs mainly on new releases for a day or so.
As demand on the server goes down a bit, the buffering also decreases.
When playing the 10 min. preview to Fast Five on the day it was available,
it constantly buffered both on HDX & HD. A couple days later it was fine.
Does anyone else find this to be the case?

                Arc,

Have you tried contacting our customer care team at (888)554-VUDU? We can optimize your network for VUDU and credit you so you can try your movie again. Please let me know if you have any questions.

                  Re: buffering problem

I watched 2 min. HDX previews of all the new releases this morning (Tuesday)
with no buffering at all. When I tried again at 7 p.m. they all buffered like crazy.
More users at home trying to access the same movies.
I guess the server can't handle too much demand all at once.

                    Re: buffering problem

Like most streaming services VUDU also uses a content delivery network (CDN) that specializes in delivering high data rates to a large number of connected devices. Our CDN typically handles peak time traffic without any issues.

Specifically for new and popular titles a CDN works really well, since those titles are cached on servers close to the end users.

Can you please check what bandwidth you are getting with our speed test (you can test on the device under My VUDU -> Info & Settings or on our website http://speedtest.vudu.com).

Some ISPs have more problems than others during peak times since they are over-subscribing their bandwidth. That's why they typically don't guarantee minimum bandwidth either...

                    Hagen.

I did use your speed test. It's always about 11 mbps, even when the buffering occurs.

What does the speedtest on your VUDU device show? How is your device connected to your internet connection?

The "Test" on my PS3 always shows HDX capable with all 3 bars usually lit. It is on a wireless connection but my Netgear router puts out around 50 mbps on the G band. Again, I never have any problem
with buffering on movies other than new movies on or around release day. After that, they're buffer-free.

Please call our support line at 888-554-VUDU (8838). We'll need to run some tests to see what's going on as you shouldn't be seeing this issue with new releases.

                              Re: buffering problem

I'm going to call Support as well. I downloaded Thor a few weeks ago and decided to watch it last night before I lose it....well within a few minutes into the movie, I got the buffering. So I logged out and tested my speeds. I was over the limit so I knew my network speed couldn't be the problem. But to be safe, I turned off my Vudu box, waited a few minutes, and then plugged it back.

Upon rebooting I checked my speeds -- they were fine. So I restarted the movie and it started buffering!! So I chose the selection of of watching it in HD. That went well for a while but then it, too, started buffering. I checked my network speeds and they were fine.

                              Frustrating!
