@E55Kev No no jeffpn is correct... its wrong for consumers to want things... and even more wrong for consumers to say what they want.

Companies have this machine that is a technology and black magic hybrid infused with the soul of an orphan child and with this machine they can reach deep into the minds of consumers and tell us what we really want...

So really there is not point in voicing pesky things like opinions. In this case the machine told them we did not want HD movies for 5-8 bucks so we didn't get them... well unless we went to cinemanow.... their machine is just tech/soul-of-an-orphan-child... so without the magic element it gave them a different answer. Guess if you change up that one variable you get much different results? I just hope they have all the kinks worked out before they start using the machine to select the next President of the US

Let me translate that just in case my sarcasm was hard to follow for some
Vudu is great they are doing a lot of things I like

Vudu is not omnipotent, even with various surveys and focus groups they will only have a gleaning of what their actually consumer base really wants. Unless said consumer base tells them. yes they can/will ignore a lot of what customers say as is their prerogative but the act of saying it is in no way detrimental to their business... and every business knows that knowledge of their customers is a valuable resource. So ridiculing people for providing a company that resource is (in its own special way) doing a disservice to the company.

Not really... Jeff thinks that we ought to let vudu run their business without voicing our opinion... this would imply that he belives they have some way of ascertaining what we want with out us telling them...

If we don't tell them the only way for them to have this knowledge is either projections based on a large enough sampling of past events... or magic.

Since UV is a BIG new variable it renders most of the data they have inaccurate or at the least the sampling is too small to make accurate projections.

Therefore at this point they have to either rely on customer feed back or magic...

The soul of an orphan child thing though... I guess that might have been a little left field... I borrowed it from Venture Brothers

Re: Will Vudu have a Black Friday sale?

You guys aren't even reading my posts. You're putting words in my mouth. Now I'm going to type real slow so you can follow me: I never said its not okay to tell Vudu what you want. In fact, quite the contrary. I have said on multiple occasions to make suggestions. I've been known to do the same.

What I said is that there is no reason to pretend to any degree that you know what's in Vudu's financial interest. No customers here have enough information to state with certainty what will be profitable to Vudu. You're not going to get any more of Vudu's ear by pretending you know as much about running their business as they do. Let your suggestions speak for themselves. Leave things like "profit" and "market share" out of it! It doesn't make your suggestion any more appealing to Vudu, I guarantee it.

I don't recall anyone other than yourself saying anything about vudu's profits or any such... We just said that we wanted a good black friday deal and didn't get it... thus they lost points and cinemanow gained points...

                          Well, there's one example.

                          Here's some more:

projections based on a large enough sampling of past events
every business knows that knowledge of their customers is a valuable resource
I think it is about missing an opportunity to score points
None of that has ANYTHING to do with a request. It's just a scheme to try to get your request taken seriously.

Here's a simple request with no talk about "valuable resources," "sampling of past events," "missing opportunities to score points," etc.

I would have liked to have seen a special on Disc to Digital, something like half off per movie converted.
Do you see the difference? He's just stating a request, without using buzzwords to try to sound like he's a consultant. Vudu does listen to requests. You don't need to pretend you're a marketing expert to get their attention.

Re: Will Vudu have a Black Friday sale?

Firstly... Scoring points with consumers... is about brand reputation... which may indirectly effect profits but not necessarily... I.E. walmart... horrible reputation... but we all still shop there...

Secondly... Everything else you quoted was in rebuttal to your statement telling us all the be quiet...

Finally... I was speaking of the mechanisms for gauging consumer opinion/insight... once again... not talking about profits... but rather trying to explain to you that us having an opinion and voicing it is not only allowable but currently, since other information sources are limited, beneficial.

You obviously have strong opinions about what you are saying... however... it may benifit you to view other peoples statments in context...

In this case the context being... that I disagree with your belief that consumers making suggestions or voicing opinions is the same thing as trying to tell Vudu how to run their bussiness.

Yes a lot of people feel if they drop in comments about lost revenue opportunities that will somehow make there comment more valuable... and you are correct it likely doesn't make their comment more valuable... but it doesn't make it less so than a comment that says the same thing without the poor attempt at bribery.

So bottom line... even when its stated poorly people expressing their opinions had merit...
I see you time and time again reiterating your point about how Vudu isn't going to change things because people say it will profit them... and you normally say it in such a way as to insult the person who stated whatever about profit...

Well... just because YOU say people ought to post a certain way doesn't mean they will change how they post....

                                I was paraphrasing.

Also I didn't call you anything... I expressed that your behavior made you appear a certain way.

If you wear a suit... and someone says "Hey that suit makes you look like a lawyer." they are not in fact calling you a lawyer.

I was merely expressing to you that the "suit" you are wearing might make people assume you are a jerk. I am not saying you are one I am merely saying that is how you appear.

And so I don't have to clarify in a later post that "suit" is figurative.
