    Re: Vudu HDX Download Devices

Seems my Vudu box is dead. I've returned it to Amazon. Time to reconsider my options.

Can anyone confirm the WD TV Live Hub 2TB Media Center and Vudu XL HD Video Download Box both give you HDX downloads of UV movies? Any other advantages for one or the other? I did see the WD box will handle many more video formats the the Vudu box.

Yes, the Vudu BX1000 can download pretty much everything in your collection. I've just tested it with a D2D purchase and a movie that is only in my Vudu account from being in my UV locker, and I can download them both to the BX1000.

In my research, I see there are some issues with the WD download feature.

        Is this a common problem?

Terrific, sounds like the Vudu box has trouble connecting to the internet and WD live has issues downloading.....I wonder if both these issues are widespread? Might have to wait for CFF to come out for a download box??

I think the Vudu box most often breaks in the same way. I saw other posts from folks with the same issue. Too bad no one took the box apart and figured out how to fix it. I don't really have the time. I'd not be surprised if the same broken boxes are sold over and over on the Internet.

Vudu is likely working with WD on the download issue, but it's been over a month. I'd have expected a lot more posts if it was widespread.

All I want is to watch my content in HD on the TV at the hotel.

I opened a support ticket, but I'm not sure what can be done.
I think I've seen this before. Try changing it back and forth from automatic to manual network configuration a couple of times, and make sure to save the settings and exit each time. I think it might still be looking for the old gateway or DNS from the last time the settings were changed.

(Just sitting in my house for about 5 years, the Vudu set top boxes have been pretty reliable and trouble-free for me, but I was on these forums in the pre-app days, when the only way to use Vudu was the STBs.)

I tried this 5-6 times, and it never connected. I gave up and sent it back. I'm back on the road, and it's in the hands of UPS.

Anyone with a WD box able to confirm if the downloads are still an issue? From the other board, it seems they download, but when you play it just streams, and does not play the movie you downloaded.

                    Re: Vudu HDX Download Devices

I decided to take the chance, and ordered a WD TV Live Hub 1TB Media Center. I downloaded several movies on my home network, and then carried it to my hotel.

I can watch the movies in HDX, as long as I'm connected to the hotel network. There's no way the hotel Internet would support that speed streaming.

About every 10-15 minutes, I get a popup saying the network is too slow to support HDX streaming. Really odd when it's playing the movie from my WD TV Live Hub hard drive.

I did try to disconnect, and after a few minutes, I get a popup that the network has been disconnected and it won't continue to play the movie.

I tried to post a picture, but it's not uploading for some reason. I'll try again later.

                        Re: Vudu HDX Download Devices

The WD does add playback of my own movies and music, plus iTunes playback. Not relevant for the VUDU forum.

I do wish the VUDU download worked properly on WD. I don't need popups bugging me.

I opened a ticket with VUDU Support and they tell me:
                          Question Reference #130715-000062
On a device it is still streaming even if downloaded.
Downloading helps the content run smoother, but is still reliant on speed.
                          Obviously this makes no sense.

                            Re: Vudu HDX Download Devices

After some back-and-forth with VUDU support, they told me you can disconnect the network after you start playback. If you do that, then it will only play the downloaded version, and not try to stream. Unfortunately, it also gives you a pop-up every 10-15 minutes saying the network is disconnected.

They now tell me that's just the way it is, and I need to put up with no ability to play my downloaded movies without constant interruption. I can choose the warning that my network is too slow to support HDX, or the warning that the network is disconnected, but that's all I can do.

I'm posting here to let people know, if you want to watch your downloaded movies in HDX, VUDU with the WD TV Live Hub Media Center is not currently an option. I'll cross-post to the WD forum too.

I also tried using the WD TV Live Hub to download from CinemaNow. WD tells me the device and the CinemaNow client do support HD. Unfortunately of the 50-60 movies I've checked, none are available in HD for download from them. A number are not available for streaming in HD either.

You can check the CinemaNow site to see if your movie is available for HD download. It doesn't show on the WD.

                                Re: Vudu HDX Download Devices

My company issued me a new laptop this week. The new one has Intel Insider, and HDMI, so I'm trying out stuff that has not worked in the past.

I tried the HD validation on CinemaNow, and it reported my PC was not eligible. Seems like a bug, since i know it does have the feature. I opened a ticket, but they really didn't answer my question. I did find their response interesting though.

the reason you are receiving this message it's because CinemaNow and Ultraviolet have an agreement that will only allow you to ''stream'' and not to download the titles that are purchased from other services through CinemaNow and you would only have the capability of HD streaming if your Internet speed it's currently 5.0Mbps or faster and also the specific movie would need to be available on the HD format into the CinemaNow website.
