No, it will only play on the Ipad itself.

Why would Vudu limit the iPad to the 9" screen when other devices can stream to the tv? For a college class, my daughter had to watch a movie available through Vudu and my wife thought she'd like to watch it with her. We signed up for Vudu and planed to stream from the iPad to Apple TV via AirPlay.

Now after renting the movie we find Vudu has somehow disabled Air Play on their site so either my wife and daughter huddle around an iPad to watch a movie or my daughter will watch it alone.

This is no way to run an entertainment company. We will probably cancel our account after she watches the movie. Very disappointing.

If VUDU is monitoring this discussion, are there plans to have VUDU support streaming it's content to Apple TV? I would buy/rent a lot more movies on VUDU if that were to happen. For now, I'll stick with iTunes.

I'm sure Vudu would jump at the chance to be on Apple TV. Unfortunately Apple TV is a walled garden that is carefully regulated by Apple. Note that Amazon VOD is also not on Apple TV. Clearly being on Apple TV would help Vudu and Amazon sell more movies, which is exactly why Apple doesn't allow them on it (right now). This may change if Apple allows 'apps' on the Apple TV in the same manner they do on the iPad/iPhone.

I agree. Don't blame Vudu for not playing on Apple TV. This is completely Apple's fault. They want your money. Apple does not want us buying digital movies from Vudu. They want us to buy from itunes. Bad Apple!

Skip Apples bull**** by doing an HDMI connection from the iPad to the TV.

Or you could buy a Roku for $50, and use it for vudu, netflix, hulu, Amazon Instant Video, and Youtube.

It's not vudu's fault. Apple only allows airplay in apps that stream video's which do not require a purchase such as Youtube, vimeo, Netflix, etc. Apps that sell movies like Vudu, Amazon Instant, Target Ticket do not have access to the airplay API.

Just like there are reviews in the app store asking why vudu, amazon kindle, and others why they don't have the ability to buy movies in the app. I guess they are ignorant, because apple will remove your app from the app store if you add that ability to your app unless you go through their in app purchasing system, which adds an extra 30% to the price of the item, and I certainly don't want vudu to do that.

I don't know if this is a change or not, as I don't remember it being this way.

Launch the Vudu app, make sure Airplay & Mirroring are on, Vudu movies appear full screen with picture and sound (ala stereo). Been doing it since the latest (fixed) app came out.
