    Buffering issue

    MODERATOR NOTE:

If you are experiencing buffering, please contact our support team http://www.vudu.com/support.html?supportPage=home

I once had 6 meg DSL service, and I was still able to watch HDX movies without buffering. I only had 1 segment of the buff-o-meter lit, but it never paused. I also increased my DSL speed from 6 meg to 12 meg. Now the buff-o-meter shows all segments lit up.

Last night, we were watching a movie in HDX, and it kept buffering. Eventually, we got a message recommending switching to HD or SD. HD was buffering as well, so we ended up watching in SD. I ran the Vudu speed test, and it filled up the meter - completely green. Nothing else was streaming or downloading at the time. We have NEVER had buffering problems before. Last night, the movie was unwatchable in HDX and HD. My BluRay is wired, not wireless. I remember streaming a movie last year on my UVerse service and the movie kept failing. Turns out, it was a bad file. Uverse refunded our money. Is it possible that 'Horrible Bosses' last night was a glitchy file itself? Why would Vudu's own speed test indicate a full green bar, and yet constantly buffer even the HD stream?

      Re: Buffering issue

I have had this same exact issue now for the past few weeks.

I have 24 meg Uverse interenet & have watched HDX movies before without buffering. Now I cant even watch an SD movie without constant buffering.
The speed test reads > 9 mb/s but last night it said network problems & it couldnt even do a speed test.

Is this a VUDU problem or a Uverse problem??

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a huge VUDU fan but this is very frustrating.

        Re: Buffering issue

I think it's a VUDU issue because we have also had this same issue for the past week or so on our Samsung TV.

It would be nice if VUDU could inform us as to what's happening.

I was able to locate your account and noticed your bandwidth is fluctuating quite a bit, At least on your latest rental. If you experience buffering on your STB, try a reboot of the device and resume the stream. If the buffering continues run a speed test and let us know what your results are.

            Spoiler,

I wasn't able to locate your account. If you could, please post your device ID so i can take a look at your streaming sessions.

                Re: Buffering issue

Add me to the list of users suddenly experiencing buffering issues watching HDX beginning 2 days ago. My ISP is Time Warner; I have 15/1 service. Vudu Network Test shows max (9+) throughput, and the network indicator is solid green while watching content. However, the video buffers every 30-60 seconds before eventually timing out. Switching to HD doesn't solve anything.

I am using a Toshiba BDX 2150/2250 Blu-ray player connected via ethernet to a Netgear router. I switched out the router (WPN824N) for a new one (WNR2000v3) and still experience the same issue. Oddly though, hooking up the BD player directly to the cable modem solves the buffering/timeout issue; videos are watchable, but "pause" every 30 seconds or so for 1/2-1 sec, so some streaming/network issue is still present.

*** UPDATE AS OF 11:30PM EST *** I am no longer experiencing the buffering/timeout issue streaming through the router, although the lag/pause issue still occurs. Maybe network congestion is easing up.

Your last 3 streams seem to be perfect. Are you still seeing buffering on occasion?

Do you see the lag on both of your devices? Have you been able to reproduce the lag on other movies or shows?

That is more or less my question for you, are you still seeing buffering on your latest rentals? I don't want to leave you hanging if you're still having problems with streams from the service.

I also have 24 meg U-verse internet and have watched VUDU HDX movies before without buffering issues. This evening I can't get thru a few minutes of HUGO in HDX, or HD and I paid or HDX. Never ending buffering issue. This is unacceptable, speedtest.net shows my download speed 22.82 mbps, upload speed 2.88 mbps, ping 25ms. The VUDU utility speed test on my OPPO-93 show a "FULL" green bar. I can't deal with VUDU servers not handling the Friday night load, my family is very disappointed - looks like we will need to turn to other services. Can't expect the consumer to except service quality inferior to the traditional DVD player.

                            Tom,

I've refunded you for Hugo and placed a $5.99 service credit on your account for the troubles. If you have a chance, could you give it another shot. I've made a slight change in hopes that you won't see buffering. Please let me know what you find.

Thanks so much on the follow up on posting a credit to my account. It is appreciated. And yes, we will give it another try over the next weekend. And thanks, for tweaking the settings - whatever they may be.
