@Jake - bump for this issue from a while back. The PS4 VUDU app still doesn't automatically choose the number of LPCM channels output, despite the fact that this is clearly possible now for apps (e.g. Netflix has been doing it for months). Any comments on why this is taking so long for VUDU to implement?

    Thanks,

I just checked and bitstreaming audio over HDMI is implemented and currently in QA. I can't give an exact ETA, but I would assume relatively soon.

Thanks for checking on that, Jake.

Will bitstream output from the VUDU app be possible even when PS4's global output is set to PCM?

If you set the output to PCM, it will output uncompressed LPCM in the number of channels of the original source (so 7.1 will output 8 channel LPCM). If you set it to bitstream it will output the untouched audio from the stream (DD or DD+ 2.0/5.1/7.1).

            That's great news!

              Re: PS4?

I joined today just to post about this issue, glad to hear there is an upcoming update to resolve this.

I've recently decided to start slowly moving away from BD and more to a digital library, at least for UV supported titles. I have 3 devices with the Vudu app and only the one on my BD players bitstreams all the audio correctly but apps on my BD player are slow and sluggish to use. The app on my TV does everything but DD+, a limit because of the optical connection.

So the PS4 app is the one I want to use most of the time because it is the fastest to navigate and it looks the best (that could be in my head though). The audio sounds fine for the most part on the PS4 app except for DD Stereo tracks because they can't trigger my receiver to switch to pro logic. Can't wait for that update!

Will there be any update for the PS4 app so we can download the movies like the PS3 app?

No, PS4 only allows apps to download about ~1GB of data, which is not enough to hold even one full movie. PS3 was just limited to free space on your HDD...
