If you would switch locations of the two boxes and see if the black screen follows the box or stays at the same location, that would be helpful information to know.

He checked this, the black screen problem stays with the box and the one that works, works at either location.

            Re: Vudu on Vizio Co-Star

I want to add to this report.

I generally get the generic connection error, retry etc. multiple times. I finally got past that then got the black screen and the app died.

Also.. that connection error that states problem connecting please retry, my new 2013 Bravia Vudu client does the same thing. However, the Vudu client on my Samsung BluRay player is ROCK SOLID. It always just starts streaming on the first try.

I hope those are just TCP code parameters that need to be tweaked and not an inherient problem with the WiFi chipsets in these boxes. Again, the Samsung client is flawless when it comes to streaming.

              Re: Vudu on Vizio Co-Star

Just to add to the fire, I also got a brand new Co-Star directly from Vizio. I Installed it, and first thing it did is perform a system update (it asked me if I wanted to so I said yes.) I never got to see what version for both Android and Vudu it had from the box, but after the update, I got this:

Android (Google TV) Version: 3.10 Rev 107223.
Vudu Version: Firmware 3.2 Build U5.3.0

As everybody here, Vudu does not play any movie, it stays on the black screen, and the time counter doesn?t even move. Funny thing is, movie previews play fine, and if you try to play a full movie and select chapters, you can actually see the pictures of the different chapters, but as soon you try to play it, you get black screen and time doesn?t change.

Best part is, I contacted Vizio tech Support (before I found out this forum posts about the problem) and the technician was very helpful, he made me do many tests, and finally, made me reset the Co-Star to factory, still Vudu did not play. I gotta add also that once you do a system update (upgrade Android Version), the factory reset takes it back to original WITH the update, meaning, the original Android version that came on the box is GONE forever. This is the way is supposed to be for any Android device, so Google TV is no difference.

The technician from Vizio talked to his supervisor, and they could not figure out what the problem is. They did not know about this issue, and he told me to contact Vudu to let them know as it seems is the App that is having the problem since all other Apps work correctly on the Co-Star.

I am going to try the test app posted in this forum on my Co-Star tonight (I am not at home now) and I will post the results.

If you communicate further with Vizio, point out the Google TV Vudu app works on other Google TV models. I have the Sony NSZ-GS7 on the same network as the Vizio Co-Star that doesn't work, the NSZ-GS7 plays Vudu properly.

I am not sure what test app you are talking about but I am pretty sure it won't work on your Co-Star either.

My Co-Star died but they sent me a new one. I have been setting up everything again and I ran into this black screen problem with the VUDU app. I have the same issue movies do not play but trailers do.. I am pretty sure this worked on my previous Co-Star. Anyway, I have been trying to figure it out. I did notice that according to Google Play (website), the VUDU app is not compatible with the Vizio Co-Star device. It also doesn't show up in Google Play on the device either even though it is stock installed.

The Vudu app in the Play Store is not compatible with Google TV, it is for other Android devices. I don't believe there has ever been a Google TV Vudu app in the Pay Store and second generation Google TV devices supposedly capable of running Vudu received an update adding the service. For some strange reason, the Vizio Co-Star continues to be advertised as Vudu capable but often isn't and so far I haven't seen any explanation from Vizio or Vudu.

I can only report our status, Vudu still doesn't work on our Co-Star. Vudu and/or Vizio haven't fixed it yet or it can't be fixed is my guess.

I am having the same issue with my Vizio Co-Star, I understand from the previous post that there is a fix on the way so thank you for that.
I am really posting just to let others know that are having he same issue that you can play your Ultraviolette movies from Flixter while you wait for the Vudu fix to be released, this of course is just a work around for you as it works fine on my box and also lets us know that the OS and box are fine it's just an issue with the Vudu app. Again just a FYI for you all.

Well hope this helps some of you to at least watch those movies you paid for.

Of course no Vudu rentals, no Vudu only movie playback, no Vudu HDX, and no Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 with Flixter but you can play the UV movies with the Flixter app. The same Vudu app works fine on other Google TV models so I don't think it is correct to say the box is fine, the issue is with the Vudu app. The fact it works on some Co-Stars as indicated above also points at something with the Co-Stars that Vudu won't work on, perhaps some small difference between production runs that makes DRM implementation different.

Also owned UV movies can be played using the M-Go app.
