hope u don't get banned for being married to him. IMO he got banned because he just would not stop talking about it.

It was both sides of the "debate" that kept going on...and isn't that what this forum is for...to talk about things. He was accused of making false statements, but over and over he was stating that this is what Walmart corporate was saying. He was actually trying to help get the truth out there (regardless of what the truth was). That is why he went through the trouble of figuring out how to contact the lady at Walmart who was quoted in that article. He figured that once he heard it straight from her that it must be true since it's her job to speak for Walmart. Instead of joining in on the thread and posting their version of the truth and explaining why their corporate office is making these claims, the Vudu mods decided to be remain silent on the subject and try to force my husband to stop talking about it. That isn't an answer, and I don't feel that anyone should stop searching for the truth on any matter. The whole thing could have been handled much better, and I personally would like to know why the lady made that statement TWICE. In my opinion, it's all her fault. If she hadn't made the claim then nobody would have been talking about it on and off this forum.

But to get back on topic, I have not seen anything official from Redbox that states when they will join Ultraviolet. If anyone can find something, please post it. I have been asking them about it but their folks seem to be like the Vudu support in that they always reply from some script and don't really try to understand or answer our questions.

You not really back on topic as this thread is about Target Ticket. Perhaps you should open another thread to discuss RedBox.

Re: Target Ticket - new streaming service (will it be UV?)

          from TV Predictions:

Target to Launch Video Streaming Service By Oct. 1

Target is planning to launch a video streaming service on or before October 1 with more than 30,000 titles available for purchase or rental, writes Variety.

It was reported earlier this month that Target was planning to introduce a streaming competitor to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and the Walmart-owned Vudu. But the launch date was unknown and the catalog of titles was uncertain.

Anne Stanchfield, Target's divisional merchandising manager for entertainment, tells Variety that the company doesn't think it's too late to enter the streaming category, which is getting increasingly crowded. She says many Americans have yet to adopt digital entertainment services.

Variety writes that Target has content agreements with several major studios including Disney, Paramount, Sony, Fox, Warner Bros., Universal and Lionsgate. Networks that have signed on include HBO, ABC, AMC, Fox, NBC and FX.

Unlike Hulu and Netflix, Target Ticket, as the service will be known as, will offer shows and movies on a pay-per-view basis rather than as a monthly subscription. This would be similar to what the Walmart-owned Vudu practices.

However, Target believes its next-day programming offering will be a market differentiator. Hulu Plus now offers programs the day after they originally air on a network, but as part of a monthly subscription, not as a pay-per-view offering.

Variety says that Target Ticket will be offered at TargetTicket.com and that the company hopes to have an app for the service on all devices by the end of 2014. At first, it will be available on PCs, Macs, Microsoft Xbox consoles, Apple iOS and Android devices, Roku set-tops and Samsung connected-TV devices, the publication adds.

I really don't think there is a big deal here. Until there are deals with MGM or Disney, nothing has really changed except that you can get the same movies from one more streaming/digital vendor.

I think it depends on how aggressive Target plans to be in this space. DVD's are dying off, and digital is the only potential defense for that revenue. Walmart has been quite aggressive with marketing UV and VUDU in the stores. I went by Target over the weekend, and I could only find 4-5 movies with the stickers.

I have to say I've not been that impressed with CinemaNow/Best Buy either. Very few UV stickers and I can't download HD content.

                @tsken02

I don't see any evidence of DVD's dying off. I actually thought this would happen when blu ray took off but they are still around. Where are the stats to back that statement up? I would like to see the comparison or numbers for future posterity sake.

I agree with lujan that Target is just another source for streaming. I don't think they will offer anything revolutionary to gain market share. Just look at blu-ray.com, HDX is a Vudu 1080P format but people use the term like it's a standard. Also, people want Vudu codes or things that can be redeemed at Vudu. Vudu is the standard in UV streaming. Good luck Target.

COMPLETELY agree. I STILL get shocked, even this weekend going into middle class and upper middle neighborhood Target and Walmart store's and not just finding DVD's, but a wall of DVD's overpowering the Blu-Ray's.

                  I'm not talking about a wall of $5 DVD's either. I'm talking about a wall of $15-20 DVD's verse a much smaller section of $20-$25 Blu-Ray's.

I just don't get why the DVD's are still selling so much better when they are only a couple bucks less. You can get a Blu-Ray player's for nothing nowadays. I'm sure those same people bought a 60+ inch flat screen already.

When buying a few movies each month, you save a lot of money buying DVDs over Blu-ray. I am sure many of you will disagree with what I am about to say, but I have met those who agree with me...there just isn't much difference between the two. The picture may look a little sharper on Blu-ray, but I really cannot tell a difference. Even if the picture is a little better, I don't see that as a good enough reason to buy Blu-ray for most movies.

I tend to buy DVDs unless the movie is a great action or science fiction flick. We have all the Disney Nature films on Blu-ray, but a movie like Wedding Crashers, Mud, or 42 I would stick with DVD.

This is my opinion...everyone has one.

I wasn't going to bring up the finance portion but I would say you could buy the combo pack and then sell the DVD and you've got the BD at the DVD price. But that's also started to go away too.

My wife used to also say she couldn't see the difference. She has learned to over time.

Re: Target Ticket - new streaming service (will it be UV?)

                        Here is the deal.

In any agreement, if both parties are motivated a deal is going to be struck regardless of the details. That is a general rule in sales.

Now, the distribution studios like the idea of EST. I will not explain all the reasons they do, but suffice it to say they find that a much better solution then pressing & shipping plastic discs.

It is true that there has been a slight uptick in brd sales as of late. I personally attribute this to the global recession coming to an end and american disposable income again becoming available. The attrition away from other forms of home entertainment to SVoD and iVoD is very clear. This includes packaged media. American consumers have come to accept this new form of delivery of their entertainment. I know of no person who does not have NetFlix, Amazon Prime, or both on their home TVs. The iVoD is two years behind SVoD, but is apart of the same consumer acceptance as SVoD.

If you look at the growth of iVoD, it is rating at about 100% to 150% growth per year.

The trend line is very clear.

Plus, as I indicated at the start, the studios are motivated to use EST. Consumers are too with the wide acceptance of streaming forms of entertainment. There is just no question that this is going to become a new defacto standard.

I'm curious as to how popular 4k movies will be compared to blu-ray and DVD popularity. Has anyone compared the video quality of 4k versus blu-ray? Is the difference as evident as when comparing DVD to blu-ray?

imo if they are going to use Rovi crapware they will be just as useless as Cinemanow, Flixster and M-go. I won't be able to watch my library with them either! Come on Amazon go UV please.
