    Can't purchase Dances with Wolves???

For some reason I can't purchase this title. Anyone else having this issue?

Re: Can't purchase Dances with Wolves???

Welcome to the real world; studios pull titles all the time, and have done so since the days of Betamax (even before VHS). Besides, this is an MGM title; with limited exceptions they don't do UV, hence they don't do D2D. Off-topic...

Same thing with The Usual Suspects. Walmart has an exclusive Blu-ray of each movie that comes with a Vudu code that was just released on Tuesday. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I got a few of these and it gives you the option to purchase the titles for 50% off on vudu. The others reflect the price but for some reason dances with wolves does not.

Definitely worth looking into, but still doesn't really belong in the D2D forum.

Walmart has the Blu ray/Vudu code combo on sale for $9 right now. Might be worth looking into. Seems like the better deal. It's $8 for the Vudu movie alone through the sale.

The problem is, of the 20 separate titles in that particular promotion, (a) three of them (Dances With Wolves, Bull Durham & The Usual Suspects) aren't even available thru Vudu right now, and (b) only one (Hang 'Em High) has a "redeem" button in Vudu. I still think this is the wrong forum, but I'm interested in several of them as they're not available for D2D and they're cheaper than buying them directly in Vudu.

The complete list of titles (picture of store display here) is:

Bull Durham (1988) (not available on Vudu)
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
              The Princess Bride (1987)
              Spaceballs (1987)
              Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
              The Great Escape (1963)
Dances with Wolves (1990) (not available on Vudu)
              Hang 'Em High (1968)
              Platoon (1986)
              Red Dawn (1984)
              Delta Force (1986)
              Robocop (1987)
              Rocky (1976)
              The Terminator (1984)
              Hoosiers (1986)
              Rob Roy (1995)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
              Road House (1989)
The Usual Suspects (1995) (not available on Vudu)
              West Side Story (1961)

Edit: Found redemption method in this post on another forum (click spoiler tag). The problem is with the "up to 50% off" offer on 10 of the 20 titles above (now marked in bold), including Dances with Wolves (which isn't available).

Re: Can't purchase Dances with Wolves???

Even if the movie doesn't show up in Vudu search the code you get with the blu ray will redeem for the movie. I understand if you want to save a $1 or have no walmarts near you though. They should still fix the promo though. Not showing up in a vudu search does not equal not being available through redemption. It's happened before with movies that came with a code that only showed up after redeeming the code. There were a few titles like that in the first batch of walmart/vudu codes a while back. Mostly Fox movies that eventually ended up UV later.

I bought the Usual Suspects from Walmart and it shows in my account. Dances With Wolves, etc.. should also.

I know there were links to the 10 movies once I redeemed Usual Suspects. That's a big flaw in the promotion. No way to get back to that link page.

I figured that out when I found the post with slip & redemption URL; I was gonna buy Dances with Wolves & possibly one of the others at Walmart myself to verify it. (Otherwise there would be complaints here from folks who couldn't redeem the promo at all.) I'm sure these aren't be the first "unavailable" titles to redeem in Vudu.

The OP wanted to buy DwW with his 50%-off offer; I don't know if he got a bad link from the post-redemption page or tried to find it later. Still, from the description on the slip the offer should appear automatically with all eligible titles until the promo ends in September -- that is as long as you can find the movie in Vudu, which brings us back to DwW not showing up in searches.

Edit: And this is completely separate from the question of whether or not MGM will join UV, though IMO it's inevitable; they're clearly too small to go it alone like Disney, and I doubt EST will ever truly take off without shared licensing services like UV & DMA.

Re: Can't purchase Dances with Wolves???

Dances With Wolves is on Vudu, I bought it a couple of years ago. My guess is that there is a temporary issue with the license that will soon be resolved since this Walmart Exclusive DVD is being sold.

Oh, and I saw someone said The Usual Suspects isn't available. I redeemed code yesterday and it shows in my account.

Here are all the titles I redeemed yesterday after receiving my DVDs and Blu-rays and I have had no problems with any of these:

                    Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
                    Hang 'Em High (Blu-ray)
                    Red Dawn
                    Delta Force
                    Rocky (Blu-ray)
                    The Terminator (Blu-ray)
                    The Usual Suspects

I would buy several of these, but I already own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Princess Bride, and Spaceballs on blu-ray. I don't want to pay that much again. If they had UV rights, I would D2D them plus a few more. I'm sticking to my guns and waiting it out.

I understand how you feel, but MGM will not be UV anytime soon. At least these DVDs and Blu-rays are much cheaper than normal.

And How do you know that? At one point there were 9 MGM UV titles, and that wasn't counting any of the ones released in the last 3 years.

Some MGM titles have leaked into the UV world in various ways, most notably Skyfall (via UV inserts administered by MGM's distribution partner Fox, who uses both Vudu & Flixster as its official partners). However, reportedly most of those titles are no longer UV; none of the 20 in this promo are. MGM titles are available thru Vudu, but most of them aren't UV. (Edit: I personally think MGM joining UV is inevitable, but they're not UV for now.)

I just bought both Dances with Wolves & Bull Durham (both on Blu-ray) and redeemed their codes (Bull Durham first to see what the DwW page looked like before redemption); as expected, they redeemed from the insert URL even though they don't turn up in searches. The "redeemed" page lists the 10 titles in the "up to 50% off" offer (same 10 for both), but they're just links to the titles; the offer itself (HD & HDX reduced from $13.99 to $8.00) appears on each title in Vudu till it expires -- except DwW, which isn't available from Vudu right now except via code redemption. (Its Vudu page is here, but it still didn't have any "buy" buttons after I redeemed my Bull Durham code; it changed to HDX after I redeemed my DwW code.)

If you want HD, the physical Blu-ray is only $1 + tax more than the "up to 50% off" offer, and less than Vudu's price before the offer; the SD offer's price may vary, but even the DVDs ($6) are less than Vudu in SD ($9.99). (The tax could be significant in states that tax discs but not downloads, like my own Arkansas.) If you really want DwW, I suggest you get it in-store or from Walmart.com.

Dances With Wolves technically is UV, just not in the United States. I bought the Blu Ray from Amazon UK and it has a UV code (It's pretty easy to find out how to redeem UK codes so search for it if that's your cup of tea). I also have Lincoln, Gremlins and Community Season 4 this way. No Vudu though. They all play fine in that service that wont be named because of it's general terribleness though.
