The Night Crawler is Not Available for Disc-to-Digital??!!!

This is one of the things about Ultra Violet that bothers me ... you have a movie that is available for Rent or Purchase, you can buy the (physical media) disc with an Ultra Violet / Vudu copy included, BUT ... the same title is NOT eligible for Disc-to-Digital transfer. Crazy.

In the case of "The Nightcrawler" ... I bought this disc without UV inclusion and am now unable to add it to my Vudu library. My only other choices are:

(a). Buy the disc all over again, spending extra for the Blu-Ray / DVD / UV version, or

(b). Buy the digital copy only, through Vudu

I realize this is not the fault of Vudu (or any other vid-library service), but rather, some strange legal situations / agreements between studio, content provider and who knows what else - but it's crazy when you have the physical disc for a movie that is IN the Vudu / UV library, but not able to convert it.

    Eventually, it will be D2D.

If you bought the disc without a code, it's likely that you bought it used, and the studios are not about to kill off new sales of recent titles.

If you bought it new, get an exchange.

Not so. You are presuming that it is a used disc, it is not. There are tons of movies that fall into the situation I've described: Available for purchase or rental on the Vudu site, net not eligible for disc-to-digital conversion, if purchased without UV. I just bought "Hand That Rocks The Cradle", for example (Bluray), and although it's available for purchase on the Vudu site, it can not be converted (from purchased, New disc) on the same site ... just another of many examples I've come across.

Re: The Night Crawler is Not Available for Disc-to-Digital??!!!

I don't understand the anger and frustration. First off, Nightcrawler is available with a Digitial Copy/UV Code. Second, Vudu has a search engine for films eligible for D2D. You should not be mad when the movie you buy is not eligible for D2D, because it's out of Vudu's hands and you have the ability to check if it's D2D before you buy it.

If having the digital version of Nightcrawler was important to you, then you should have purchased a Blu-ray combo pack that included a digital HD copy. It's common for new titles that come with a UV code to NOT be eligible for D2D until later. There is little reason for a new movie that comes with a UV digital copy to also be eligible for D2D. Those who buy it already get the digital version. If bought the movie new then it should have come with a digital copy. If it had a digital copy, why would you use D2D to purchase the digital copy instead of redeeming it through the code.

Then please excuse me for thinking you were angry and/or frustrated. I mistook your liberal use of exclamation points and questions marks, which generally signify such feelings. You sounded annoyed at something you should not have been annoyed at. Looking around online, it looks like the only physical release of Nightcrawler is a combo pack that comes with a UV code. If you bought this movie new, you would not need it to be eligible for D2D.

So if you bought the disc new and it didn't have the code inside - call for a replacement. If we're still missing a piece of the puzzle, educate us.

If everyone else misunderstands your point, perhaps you didn't convey it very well. You sounded like you were complaining that Nightcrawler, a new release, is not eligible for D2D. Yet Nightcrawler (from what I saw searching online) is only available in a Blu-ray/Digital Copy combo pack. Anyone who purchases a new copy of this would not need it to be D2D eligible. Therefore, some of us reasonably assumed that you had a used copy of the movie. Again, if everyone else has the same interpretation of your post, then perhaps you didn't properly convey your point.

The OP is obviously a troll. New releases are usually not eligible for D2D

He doesn't seem like a troll to me, just somebody who doesn't really know how it works. He probably bought the dvd figuring it would save him a couple of bucks even with d2d over the blu ray. And when they were frequent with their d2d releases there was no way to tell what was going to be eligible unless you knew to search for it or to use fattys list. Some movies were released to d2d before they were even available to purchase. If vudu d2d was more proactive in trying to get people to use it (using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) I think the program would have been much more successful.
