    Nvidia Shield AndroidTV APP EVER?

So nvidia shield is by far the best 4k streaming box out there. Will we ever get a native VUDU app? Casting is awful and sideloading is worse. It was announced there would be an app almost a year ago.

    Roku 4 is terribad btw

    Please some kind of update.

You are another upset customer, that is preaching to an ever-growing choir. I have heard nothing from Vudu, and you won't hear a damn thing either. They can't tell anyone what is in the pipeline. They won't even touch it. They obviously have some contract with Vizio and Roku that they have to complete before opening up the market. I HIGHLY doubt that it is all on the device end where the ball stops rolling. I have had my tv for 6 months now, and was hoping that Vudu 4k would be my main 4k source. I, instead have been going with Amazon. I love vudu, so I hope they get their **** together and please some customers. LOTS of Samsung and Android customers want to give Vudu money for 4k content, and because of their lack of support they are losing out.

Roku 4 does suck. I tried one at a friends and was far from impressed.

The ball didn't stop on AndroidTV app because of Nvidia apparently according to them "Nvidia" VUDU won't create the app for some dumb reason?

Vudu is really the only thing missing from Shield TV for me. I have invested a ton of money in VUDU and some items that aren't UV can not be viewed in other services I wish Amazon or Google would join UV and I would be done with VUDU completely!

I have actually posted before on this... Shield support is in progress. I can't give an exact date but my *estimate* would be within the next couple months. In fact Nvidia is helping with a lot of custom work to integrate with Android TV features and I'm looking forward to it!

And to pizzadave: Constructive criticism is appreciated, rants not so much (if you want a response from engineers on the forum doing it because they just want to help). Admittedly VUDU UHD is still limited - we will support devices as they meet the mandated studio security/DRM requirements and the dev work is completed. We want VUDU and UHD on as many devices as possible, of course!

Well I guess I missed where you posted that but thanks for the update! The Shield has been out for a long time and I assumed that it was never going to get a vudu app but I am glad maybe one day it will. I just hope it isn't to late to the game BTW if a shield beta tester is ever needed get in touch with me I would be happy to test!

This is great news Jake, thank you!

I have a Shield and am looking forward to vudu being added to it.

I am currently doing most of my vudu viewing on a Tivo Roamio (24p support!) but ever since the last Tivo update vudu has been kind of of laggy (when you play a video the poster art stays on screen a long time, same thing when you instant replay, after ff or rew frequently you will get 10 seconds of audio before the video starts to play, etc).

Great but what about Fire TV, which I am sure many more people actually have than Shield, and Apple TV? Is Apple and Amazon not playing ball or is this a Vudu issue?

Re: Nvidia Shield AndroidTV APP EVER?

Jake, I understand, I am just impatient. I do work with programming on industrial automation. The programming that I do is low scale, but takes a lot of time. I can't imagine the amount of work that goes in to development of an app that has to work on so many different devices when each device can't get on the same page. I am happy to see that progress is being made with Nvidia. I just want Android TV to sky rocket, because it has my support. It has been the greatest "smart" platform I have used yet. I look forward to seeing what is to come.

On a side note, does Vudu plan on running HDR at any time, or is Dolby Vision what they plan to stick to?

Amazon and Apple don't really want a competing service on their boxes

HDR10 support is definitely something we are looking at in the future - but it will require studios to approve/support as well.

Up until recently the HDR support on TVs has widely varied in quality and features (unlike DV the specs were a bit "fluid" and there was no certification) - and no one wants to release premium UHD/HDR titles unless there is a clear benefit to the customer (as it should be!). Hopefully the new UHD Alliance certification program improves that.

                      Jake,

I'm just going to take a leap here and just go ahead and ask... Can you comment on whether Vudu is even allowed on Apple TV?

I believe so. Also think I answered this before but to make sure:

HD iOS support and AirPlay streaming to ATV are a priority. A full ATV app will probably happen eventually, but it's not as much of a priority because Apple's revenue "sharing" model effectively prevents other content distributors from making money on their devices...

Thanks for the reply Jake. This is disappointing but understandable. What about in the case of Fire TV? Does Amazon have the same stance on revenue "sharing"? Seems if you release and Android TV app it would relatively easy to port to the Fire TV.

Thanks for the reply. As was said, disappointing but understandable. I'll just give my vote to a "watch only" Vudu Apple TV app - one where you can watch your movies but would purchase through your phone, similar to how Amazon handles purchases on the Kindle app...

Note AirPlay streaming would allow streaming to AppleTV (all generations, not just the latest).

Android TV is also a priority. Fire TV, specifically, I doubt - I don't know much about how sideloading media apps with DRM works, but I believe an app published in the Amazon app store would require 30% gross revenue sharing, which is the same as Apple.
