Vudu can't aquire HD rights but Microsoft can?

I was told in the forums that movies may not be available in HD since either the studio won't allow or does not have it or Vudu cannot obtain the right to a HD copy. SO, why is it other digital media retailers can get HD copies of certain movies and Vudu can't?

For instance; Vudu and Xbox has "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3" for digital purchase, however Xbox has is in HD and Vudu does not.

Nobody knows the answer to that perplexing question. I know there are quite a few movies that vudu only offers in SD that are available in HD on Amazon Instant, CinemaNow, iTunes, or even the newly launched Target Ticket. All the other retailers have them but vudu doesn't? And they are supposed to be the one with the most HD movies according to their home page advertising. They may be, I haven't counted, but it is strange.

Perfect example is pull. Some major retailers have major pull and when one of their accounts does a sizable chunk of business through them that means the retailer has leverage over them. Kind of at their whim if you will and many a manufacturer has been for not meeting the term or because the terms were too thin. It happens. I've spent decades in this business dealing with the manufacturing, retailing, vendor compliance, contracts. There's a long of game play. The bigger fish is the one in control of the deck.

That seems so sad. I forget the companies are competing.

The problem is that Vudu has the best quality. Cinemanow sucks. I'd prefer to be able to get that HDX quality here! It's disappointing when you got to another retailer and they have a "higher quality" version. I have several of those in my library.

I'm still waiting for VUDU to add "Cabaret" and (especially) "Papillon" In HD so I can add them to my VUDU library via D2D, but it still hasn't happened...

I would stick the disc into the D2D application and see what comes up.

There has been times where when I would search for a title I wouldn't see HD/HDX as available and I thought to myself do I really want to pay for D2D now for only SD and know I'm just going to do it again when HD/HDX became again. To my surprise when I stuck the disc in the drive HD/HDX came up as an option on D2D.

So some weird legal / contractual thing about no NEW HD/HDX sales so it wasn't available as a button on the regular site, but with the D2D app it comes up since you're just CONVERTING a Blu-Ray to Digital Stream.

              Worth a try.

If it still comes up as SD in D2D you just cancel, other surprise, surprise. I know I have been a FEW times.
