VUDU has deals far superior to other VOD services. I wonder when the rest of the world is going to smell the coffee.

I agree, they generally have favorable prices when compared to other VOD services. However, usually they are vastly overpriced when compared to buying the blu-ray / digital code packages. Especially their bundle pricing, which I usually find laughable. This is one of those rare times that the bundle price blew away the physical media pricing.

It's all about demand. There's no such thing as "overpriced." Overpriced products don't sell. Customers determine price more than anything. If people weren't paying what you consider to be too much, retailers would lower the price. Blame the customers paying those high prices!

I don't agree. We know the studios set the prices for digital titles, and they still don't want to undercut DVD prices. In some cases, I'm sure they don't sell any significant volume of digital. Unfortunately, we'll never know, as they don't tell us sales numbers.

And we don't have any right to see sales numbers. I buy what I want, and pass up the rest. I don't think any company anywhere goes through the effort to offer things for sale at a price that nobody will pay. If they didn't want to sell it, they wouldn't offer it. What purpose is there to offer something at a price higher than anyone is willing to pay?

New movies are frequently five to seven dollars cheaper than the suggested retail Blu-Ray price. On occasion, there are remarkable sales on new titles, like "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" being on sale with bonus features for under ten bucks on Black Friday. The monthly $7.88 deals are usually pretty good, with a good mix of recent (but not brand new) and older catalog titles. However, a sale like the End of the Year sale that is presently going on is competitive with most physical media deals in big box stores.

                I love this place.

Individual retailers can be overpriced when compared to other retailers. An overpriced retailer will still get sales from people, just maybe not as many as they could if they were more competitively priced. There are people who will buy without price shopping, so they are more apt to overpay for something than someone who compares prices.

Let me conclude (my input anyway) by stating that it's rather unfortunate for Vudu and the studios that all of the experts are customers and not employees. The only way you're going to get them to lower prices to what you think is fair is to somehow prevent the other customers from paying their asking price. Companies don't make money when customers are not buying.

It's really not sarcasm. I know sarcasm. There are a lot of threads here where members complain about prices being too high. Everyone seems to be an expert. The only thing you can do is not buy. No company is going to lower a price because a customer started a thread.

"Everyone seems to be an expert".. that includes you.

It's a forum. People come here specifically to praise, complain, ask questions or just make suggestions. It's their right.

I also never said that I expect Vudu to change their pricing off any thread here. Personally, I don't care if Vudu lowers their prices or not. If they are overpriced on something, I simply buy it from another source. So actually, they lose money all the time from me, as I buy a lot of movies but only a small % directly from them.
