Network Problems with Xbox and Vudu

Ok I am posting to see if I can get any hep with this or if its just VUDU through XBOX that has issues.

The issue is that on the movies we have so far bought (rented at SD) on the xbox we had a delay /timeout/stutter issue. The movie plays for maybe 1-2 mins at most then pauses with the swirling xbox thinking. On both occasions we have done this it times out and says bandwidth is an issue and it needs atleast 1mb speed for SD. That would be fine apart from the following.

Im on FTTH at 10mb up and 10mb down.
    Im getting those speeds
I called tech support for it they confirm im getting those speeds.
I pulled up my laptop and rand the move perfectly so that means Im getting the speed needed to play movies.

Am I the only one having this with the XBOX and VUDU? is it just a buggy ap for now that needs tweaks? (netflix works perfectly in SD and HD)

Any help would be most appreciated

    Steve

It's never been fixed - at least for me. Vudu just says unplug your router blah blah. Vudu is the only service that this happens on for me. Stuttering. Lip sync issues. I'm going to have to stop renting and buying from Vudu.

In addition. Streaming on my wireless laptop works flawlessly in any resolution. The xbox, which is hardwired to the router, has these issiue, no matter the resolution. I also have another xbox that is wireless. Same issues - regardless of how many times I power cycle them.

I have given up watching anything recently on my Xbox 360 due to stuttering video. However, this seems to only effect HDX. If I switch the title to HD, I don't seem to have an issues that I can recall. But because I have so many devices that support Vudu, I just opt to either use the Blu-ray Player or my App on my TV itself..

Try playing the video in HD and see if you have problems still.... Could just be that for whatever reason due to the last few updates (console or app), that HDX just can't play smoothly...

Stuttering and lip sync issues do not point to connection issues. This seems to be an issue with the decoding or available memory. Hence our customers care question trying to reboot the XBox and go straight to VUDU w/o launching any other App or Game.

Can you please let us know which movie/tv show you were trying to watch. And yes, can you also please let us know if you see this on HDX only.

Do any of you have a Kinect connected to your XBOXes? If so, try disconnecting the Kinect, reboot your XBOX and then give it a try. Let me know if this works.

Stutters at any resolution. I also have a PS3, connected wirelessly - which is only a wireless g as opposed to xboxes wireless n. No stuttering on the PS3. On the Xbox, so far, every movie I've ever watched. I will attempt the Kinect disconnect and see what occurs.

Did this ever get resolved? I just posted a similar issue in the General section with The Hobbit UV copy in HDX. On my XBox, HDX and HD stutter but on other devices, including a PS3 on the same TV, HDX works flawlessly(also works flawlessly on my WD Live SMP on another TV).

I have 2 XBox's on 2 different TVs, one with a Kinect and 1 without and they both exhibit the stuttering. Now the kicker is, other UV titles such as Skyfall work flawlessly in HDX on both Xbox. It seems specific to The Hobbit only. Not sure why.

When you see stuttering/issues with HDX - do you have a Kinect plugged into the Xbox?

We have seen some issues with HDX and Kinect (the Kinect camera software and video decoding are both running on the GPU). If you do have a Kinect and unplug it, do you still see the issue?

Re: Network Problems with Xbox and Vudu

I'll just piggy-back on this thread if that's acceptable. I had problems yesterday when I rented The Hobbit on HD, not HDX. It would cut out every few seconds to few minutes and would tell me that the Vudu service was unavailable. I tried disconnecting my Kinect and everything. I fought for over an hour with it and tried tweaking all kinds of settings on my local network (12mb down, 3mb up...speed tests were just fine) to no avail, which was frustrating because everything else on Xbox Live works perfectly for me. I eventually gave up and rented the movie on Xbox Video and did not have one single issue and streamed the movie in HD the entire time. Is is possible to get a refund since it wasn't my network that was the problem, and I only got 30 minutes through the movie?

Re: Network Problems with Xbox and Vudu

Glad I found this thread as well. I've been very frustrated the last 2 weeks or so. 80% of the time I watch something on vudu through xbox it quits every 2-5 minutes saying "there has been a problem with vudu.... etc" I have to keep hitting retry. Is very embarrassing when I have people over to watch something and we can't. I even lower the quality down to SD and it seems to make no difference.

Luckily I can switch over to Roku and it usually works fine, although my Roku is only 720p.

I have one movie (The Thieves) I bought on vudu and haven't been able to watch at all yet due to this problem, it kept buffering on roku as well.

My internet is 30Mbs down and all other streaming services work flawlessly. Xbox video works flawlessly, and is also 1080p. What could be different about Vudu?

I think something is broken with the vudu app on 360.

We will be releasing an update to the Xbox app in the next couple weeks that should help with these network/streaming issues.

Though if you are also having streaming issues like this in general with a 30Mbps Internet connection there is likely something else with the network configuration that can be tweaked to improve things - customer care should be able to work with you on that.
