    Vudu for Roku constantly buffering

I have what I believe is a Roku 2 (or second generation Roku box, whatever it is called). My wife and I use it to stream most of our stuff, especially Vudu. Just starting on Friday, it seemed as though whenever we wanted to watch something on Roku, it would load maybe 30 seconds of footage, buffer, play back the last ten seconds, and then play for another 30 seconds before buffering again. It's been like this all weekend, and none of our other Roku apps (Netflix, Hulu) have this issue. Anyone know what the issue is?

Have you tried to hard power-cycle the Roku as of yet?

I'll be honest, I have no idea what that means. When we got married, my wife brought her Roku with her so it's just this...thing sitting next to my Xbox 360.

Sorry, just unplug it's power cable for 1 minute and then plug it back in. Sometimes, the memory can lock up on the device.

I had the exact same issue while trying to watch A Million Ways To Die In The West. Reset. Powered Down. Switched to Ethernet. Switched to SD. Always the same. Tried other movies. Always the same. Vudu did this for like a week and then finally went away. All other services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc) were all working fine during the same period.

            Hi Jeremy,

Sorry for the trouble you've encountered with your VUDU streaming. If you haven't done so already please get a case started so we can track your issue and try to help. If you do have a case started already, can you post it here?

Re: Vudu for Roku constantly buffering

I have noticed that my Roku 3 (hard wired to Ethernet 35mbps ^) started doing this about a month or so ago. Not this bad though. I first noticed it when we would watch TV shows. If we paused Bates Motel then unpaused it it would play for about 5 seconds and then buffer for a few seconds. We started Breaking Bad, and it does the same thing. We have paused numerous movies and I don't recall this ever happening on those. I power cycled the Roku, modem and router. Initially I thought maybe TV shows or those shows specifically were maybe housed on a different server, but that is just a guess from someone who isn't in IT.

We use a lot of data, (we were over 600 GB last month, thanks Vudu!) and this doesn't happen on Netflix or Hulu Plus. It doesn't really bother me, as it only happens if I pause then resume, and only seems to happen on TV shows. Also, if I recall, it only started happening about a month or two ago.

Edit: Just to clerify, it does not continue to buffer throughout the show. After resuming (could be paused of 5 minutes or 5 seconds) it plays for a few seconds then buffers for a few seconds. After that we are good...unless we pause and resume again.

Re: Vudu for Roku constantly buffering

We have had a lot of buffering issues lately with Vudu on our Roku 3. I was able to watch several episodes of some of our television shows last night and today without buffering. Weekends seems to be worse for us, we'll see how it goes this weekend.

I have a roku 2 and have been unable to watch any movies I have rented or bought without it buffering every 30 seconds. I am running over 50mbps and have NO problems on any other streaming or rental site. To me I think walmart is being cheap with broadband, never have I had these problems before the buyout.

I am currently having this issue on my Roku 2 with Vudu. I have done a hard reset and still is happening. This started about 2 weeks ago and has only gotten worse. I start a movie and get about 30 second to a minute before is starts to buffer. When it comes back it replays about 10 seconds and gives me another 30 seconds to a minute before it buffers again and restarts the process. Makes movies unwatchable. Never used to have this issue. Wonder if its a storage issue with Vudu or bandwith restrictions. I have had no issues with Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO GO, Showtime Now, or any other streaming service on the same device.

There aren't any bandwidth restrictions with VUDU. Give our support team a call at (888)554-8838, they should be able to help!

Indeed, my Roku streaming stick is streaming full bar HDX via WiFi!

After calling the number above, I was instructed by the agent to:

                            1. Unplug Power Cord From Roku
                            2. Wait 30 Seconds
                            3. Plug back in
                            4. Roku restarts
                            5. Go back to Vudu

                            And It's fixed!

Mine was buffering badly, but it was a matter of changing from HDX to SD (my DSL is only 2.5 Mbps). I've only used Vudu for movies that I have ultraviolet codes on. The menu to change definition is found by pressing the down arrow once the movie has started. Hope this helps.
